Please tell me which of the past class X, XII have become really rich or richer than the peers who did not do so well? And do not blame India when the mentality is clearly within ourselves too Good marks in 10thetc means getting into good colleges & inturn means better chance of excelling in future. We should felicitate our toppers becoz it would also encourage the others to do well. It's like one match of your careerer though a very important knockout match. Why shouldn't we reward the man of the match doesn't matter if it's his only one.

When I was in 12th, my school got the previous year's state topper to share his "success" story in the class. Dude was totally clueless, saying things like wake up at 3, study for 15 hrs, don't see TV, control ur emotions, pour cold water over ur head if ur mind is diverting etc., :cantstop: That's upto the individual.

And do not blame India when the mentality is clearly within ourselves too Now you are bordering on the 3 idiots like stereotype, "Back bench guys are more successful than the topper". :giggle: You can't totally blame the mentality. The system reserves the best colleges for the ones who got the highest marks. And the competition toughens when you have the good for nothing caste based reservations. Middle class parents wants their child wanted to land on some job, since the new business is almost dead as the super rich and politicians taking over. Add that to the limited career options in India where the competition is toughened in every field. Even in MBBS, if you are studying in a less known private college, the student is most likely to end up as a duty doctor in some obscure hospital or a clinic doctor who looks after a medical shop. So naturally, parents and the school mafia literally force their child to mug up and squeeze marks out of them, making them deviod of any other talent. The only talent they programmed is "how to score marks". Which is why they are least likely choose an unconventional career path and look for the career where they are actually interested.

I have seen resumes of many toppers in life who struggle to fit in to their work thinking their academic proficiency will carry them through. And you can also see that many who are arguing against that point here are students themselves who have not seen life outside academics I am not sure how legit is that statement as there is only one topper every year in different boards. :--D Having said that, the most talented, intelligent or smart or clever guys are most likely to score very high. They wont be toppers but sneak into a top college, and become sucessful even it's a crowded/unconventional career path.

Which good college demands you have to top in X and XII? When some topper says he studies 16 hours a day to get marks, other kids are forced to do the same. It is not only detrimental for emotional growth and maturity, it is physically very unhealthy too. That is the last thing you want to encourage. A well rounded education is what should be the focus, that is called excelling, I think 90% of people can top if they shut themselves ina room and mug for 16 hours a day Having said that, the most talented, intelligent or smart or clever guys are most likely to score very high. The intelligent or smart guys usually discover much later in life what they want to do. Particularly in Class X, XII, it is the really muggy guys who come out on top. Make no mistake, the smart guys do come in the top 10/20 and usually with much less effort. They don't mug as much and have other interests. These guys later do well in competitive exams and in a business environment. People who mug for hours a day and avoid social contact are bound to be socially awkward and lacking in emotional quotient.
