Which is true, I mean without him and some leadership, Australia were crushed by India in India which lead to Shane Watson being captain for a match....eww. But yeah skill wise he left it too long but he was for the team and Ponting is a team guy but I would have never thought he would say that he played too long. Well at least this quick and not like ages from now.

It is very difficult for great players to decide their exit.They are at a stage where selector cannot drop them & they cannot decide that himself

I don't know why Tendulkar carried on. Many suggest due to records but Ponting said if selectors would drop him, they'll drop him. Remember they did that to Ian Healy and Mark Waugh, so yeah it is possible. Ponting always wanted to help the younger players. I mean sure there will be selfish motives but all in all he is a team guy.

Players like Tendulkar retired from all type of cricket,instead if he had retired earlier he could have played in the Ranji seasons.It would have been great for everybody if Tendulkar had played for Ranji season for 2 year

He had to....his averages were 21,17,30 for the last 3 years of his test career ....sachin never averaged that bad for 3 successive years....even in ODIs sachin averaged under 40 only in 2012..the year he retired

Which crunch matches? All he scored in his last 3 years was against our buffet bowling.

Thing is, if Ponting stays on, he's staying on for the team. But, if Sachin stays it's coz of records. These are different individuals whose psyche can't be measured. Why is Federer still playing? They have always defied all odds and hence tend to hold on longer as they feel they can come out triumphant again. And anyways, retiring at the top is selfish. If you are on top of your game, then you stay on and help the team.

He wasn't even near his best but he certainly wasn't a pushover like most of the other batsmen. He had his moments in both the series which he couldn't capitalize. He became a liability in the NZ and England tours at home. And he retired 2 series after that didn't he?
