In fact, if anything Tapas has had more ire by the public media than RSS. Here's what I meant - Parrikar made an insensitive remark about rape but there has been relatively less reaction (rightly so) than Tapas who made a threat via the use of rape. Now, if the "If RSS would have said this people would have gone bonkers" comment (as proposed by people living in ivory towers here) was true - there would have been threads on ICF, Arnab news night etc etc. But clearly, there aren't any - he was criticized for the insensitive remark and that's that. OTOH, Tapas who made a threat was roasted by the media. What does this say? The reaction to most (not all before people start brining in reductio ad absurdum) comments are proportionate to the idiotic nature of the comment. This is unlike the victim mentality conspiracy theory card played by the people (some of it displayed here) is pure non-sense. TL;DR - MTC said X, I gave an example to show that X was true.

The outrage factory for the yuppie elite works very selectively and to very honest Internet is a great tool in that sense. No harm in that either. All of us have our biases The feeling of anonymity gives great sense of freedom which can undermine the most disciplined ones. You can only pretend o much till your most truthful side is likely to come out. I don't expect anything from TMC. Being from Kolkata, this comes as no surprise. But the selective outrage factory can choose to keep it alive or make it die down slowly. This would have been 100 post thread with googlies checking every second on random site or blog or those few ones which we agree , and posting it here.

Ravi, your argument of 'selective outrage factory' is a fallacy. For one, every source will be selective by logic- real time news and devlopments cannot, by definition, be reported in its entirity without a massive social shift towards spying on each other. So every source, by default, will only report a subset of the existent news and therefore, be selective (by virtue of selecting a subset of the whole set). Therefore, the idea that you are outraged by selective outrage factory, is a bit...logic fail. And ofcourse, its pedantry, because it simply reduces the argument to 'us vs them' instead of addressing the meat of the argument.

Otherwise its a ridiculous statement from someone like Parrikar who is considered a sensible man.
