Speeds and Performances of Pacers and Spinners

Umesh didn't look good in those 2 overs he bowled - not good signs for Ind since one he gets going, he can leak runs tremendously. and playing ishant was not going to be a long-term solution either. once the current gen of Umesh, Shami, Ishant retire (all are in 30s), I have a genuine fear that SENA tours in 2-3 yrs from now under Dravid and co will have the following "attack":

Boom (bowling in low to mid 130s by that time)

Deepak Chahar

Nagwaswalla/Unadcutter

Ishan Porel (another trundler)

While not as bad as Vinny Koomar, this would still be a significant downgrade over peak Ind attack of 2017-2020. And the worst part is that all 4 of the above are highly plausible. No Prasidh, tyagi, avesh, mavi, etc.

Surely not. But yes umesh dint look at his best. 34 age is showing a little. Still got 2 years left.

Shami should only be used every alternate game. He was super fresh vs england because he played 2 out of 4 games.

He is really 36. Lets be honest.

He is a great bowler. but now age is catching up.

new age of trundler-domination will be heralded by dravid. he is a true "revolutionary" in this respect

Dont want to insult a legend like Rahul but he is not helping whatsoever.

Unfortunately, legendary player can still be crappy coach and vice versa. Football is full of such examples too: one semi-recent example that comes to mind is Pirlo for Juventus (great player, shoddy coach).

What use are the A tours if someone like Saini can't be picked despite bowling so well? Vihari will again be benched despite doing well in the chance he got. Iyer will not get to play in SA after grabbing the chance he got.

While all the seniors continue to hog onto their places irrespective of performance. And that includes Umesh and Ishant, who are well past it.

Nothing changes, the motto remains Indian cricket is run for and by the non-performing seniors cabal for whom self interest is all that matters. With this same old attitude, minimal hopes of any ICC trophy wins under the new TM as well.

we have come a long way fast bowling wise but we are still not managing our resources well. Pretty much every bowler is getting his debut 2 yrs later than he should and the ones who should be phased out/put out to pasture keep clinging on like limpets as a kind of lifetime achievement/longevity bonus. it is the same with our batting too which encourages selfishness.
