Is bhuvi an effective bowler in test matches?

Bhuvi , as of now, is an one trick pony. Basically medium paced swing bowling in tests. His quicker spells are mostly in LOIs. Lacks bounce or consistent seam movement. Or reverse swing till now. Until he adds any of the abovementioned in his repertoire , I am not too hopeful of him in tests over a period of time. He may succeed in an odd innings or two but , as of now, does not look like a potential wicket taker in tests.
Took 2 wickets with old ball
7 test matches and only 9 wickets to show far ' date=' compared to Shami 7 tests 28 wickets and Ishant 55 tests 165 wickets. No wonder Bhuvi was dropped for SA and NZ tests for Zaheer Khan. I would be surprised if Bhuvi takes more than 3 wickets in this match. He should be dropped for Pandey in next match, inspite of his batting.[/quote'] Yes because 7 matches is the sample size to judge any player. Should be made into ICC law

He was bowling good pace in IPL. Nowhere near it yesterday.
In T20s, a seamer bowls a 2 over spell max. He can bowl as quickly as he wants. In tests, you need to bowl longer spells and 15-20 overs in a day, so pace will be down. Shami was bowling 145+ kph and B Kumar was bowling 135 kph in IPL, World T20. Shami is usually around 135-140kph in tests but he was slower yesterday and B Kumar is around 125-130kph.

What's good to see from BK was that he was swinging the old ball, bowling in the right areas even later in the day, which disproves the notion that he is only good with the new ball.

That was not reverse but conventional swing. The ball change worked for bowlers. They got more swing with the changed ball.

So if England bowlers didnt get swing, its the conditions but if Indian bowlers got swing, its the changed ball, is it ? Have you been listening to the sky commentators by any chance ?

Once the ball changed, it started swinging. Every ball is different. Some swing, some do not and no I did not see the match, but saw tea break show on Star. Akash Chopra was there. They were talking about that ball change which changed the match. Other than that, England bowlers did not get overcast conditions. Our bowlers did and they did well with that.

Also, Stokes is not much of a swing bowler and Plunkett was basically bowling short from around the wicket. Once they saw off Anderson and Broad, there was not much of a threat. Even they were not bowling in the right areas on this pitch and they were bowling like they would on a helpful pitch. They seemed to be pre occupied with the conditions and not on the job. Also, their stop gap bowler Moeen was also expensive, so the seamers had to bowl more overs and got tired very quickly. So it was a better bowling effort from Indian bowlers and not the conditions which did the trick.

So what it has to do with Indian bowlers suddenly found swing? I do not think they got swing after lunch. It is just we played badly at that time. Even if they got then that was no conventional swing, but reverse. Indian bowlers got conventional swing with the c hanged ball. They got swing in the morning with new ball when Dhoni was dropped in 2nd over by Prior. I also dont understand why it is wrong to accept that our bowlers got more out of the changed ball. Nothing wrong in accepting that. It is a part of the game. Our bowlers had also looked quite ordinary with the ball before that.

BK is selling himself short and if he keeps bowling these dibbly dobbly stuff he wont have much of a career, he has to bowl atleast 135 to 140 k in tests and not just bowl this keeper up to him like a spinner stuff at 78 mph which is sad.

Actually the older ball also swung. Ishant got a couple of wickets with that old ball. Then when the ball was changed, there was some swing too. But not much as you usually get in England. The areas in which they bowled, mostly on the stumps made the difference.

Don't give much importance to his 4 wickets. Even Pk picked 4 wickets against England last time we toured. Bk got couple of lucky wickets. He needs to add couple of yards pace.

Plunkett and Stokes have more than a couple of yards of pace over him. How many wickets did they get on the same track ?
