zep1706 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 It is clear to most people except some die hard Dhoni fans that India need a new test captain. Dhoni can stay as the limited over captain and as the world cup and champions trophy winner he deserves that, at least till the 2015 world cup. But most of us who have followed test cricket closely understand that Dhoni just does not have what it takes to be a good test captain. His negative and in some cases mindless (like giving his bowlers 1 over spells for 1 hour) captaincy has stopped this side to achieve its full potential. I have no doubt that with the players that we have right now, we can be a really good test side. We need a person who understands the longer format and Dhoni is not that man. So who do you think has the qualities to captain this test side? Personally I think Rahane could be that man. I am not convinced with Kohli's temperament and I would just let him bat freely without the burden of captaincy. Pujara doesn't come across as someone who has leadership qualities to me. Vote and discuss.

Pujara's problem is that he is not playing the other two formats, so I am not sure if the selectors would be inclined to appoint different captains for different formats. Rahane also has the same problem. So Kohli would be the eventual choice.
