BlueBee Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 He'll score a quickfire Hundred at Old Trafford. Naysayers will be proved wrong. :om:
Yoda-esque Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Exactly. When will we stop looking past mere scorecards and judge batsman based on how they have scored those runs? Saha looked composed and comfortable. It was a very good debut. Even Rohit looks calm and composed
sensible-indian Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Even Rohit looks calm and composed You know what I meant. Rohit looks calm and composed, then suddenly explodes (i.e gets out) and then goes back calm and composed. Everyone is left scratching their heads in a dumbfounded manner. By the way, that dude has some serious technical weaknesses which makes him struggle against swing bowling.
velu Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Dhoni brings much more to the team than his batting. His aura, overall impact as a player over the years, his captaincy achievements and past laurels made him the greatest sporting icon in India and richest cricketer in the world. A personality like him is not easy too get rid off even though there are (not entirely sure) better WK batsman available in the country. This is pretty similar to the case of Tendulkar in his closing days. Since 2011 WC there were many many better no.4 batsmen available in the country but no one could remove Sachin due to his aura. A certain Rahane never got into playing XI even though Sachin's stumps were constantly uprooted by the likes of Boult and Southee. Pujara and Kohli couldn't make into playing XI due to a struggling VVS and Dravid. Unfortunately this process will continue as this is how cricket being run in Sub continent. MSD is not the first one and will not be last. Removal of a player of MSD/SRT stature will have a massive financial effects on BCCI's ticket sales/TV rights etc. Just curious - Can you post away test avgs of all Indian batsmen post 2011 WC? Please include the retired veterans too so that we can get a clearer picture. :two_thumbs_up:
CSK Fan Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 the day you stop whining ' date=' i will start contributing .. and forget to tell , will try to improve forum quality :giggle:[/quote'] I used to think you are trolling, but it is clear over the years, over multiple forums, you are just incapable of having any decent discussion ever. Your very aim is to get others complaining and 'whining' in the first place if not obvious, then subconsciously. Maybe I have been too hard on you because this is indeed a limitation you have. But most forums will not tolerate this non-stop trolling and derailing of every thread
CSK Fan Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 I think it's unfair to compare his batting average to that of other batsman. It should be compared to other keepers & i think he would rank among the top 5 comfartably. We are missing the point here. Why don't we compare batting averages of our batsman to that of other batsman would they rank that high? Or why don't we compare bowling averages of our bowlers would they rank as high? We are trying to remove something which is already fine instead of trying to improve in the areas where we are pathetic. Some good points. Let me reply to each 1) Lower order batting is more important on overseas tours where balls swing early and the top order can fall very cheaply. Hence his contribution is very important in overseas tour, much more than at home 2) The point is, when those batsmen or bowlers fail, they are removed and new ones are tried. This is not the case with Dhoni 3) How an overseas average of 25 is 'fine' is beyond me. That is Afridi's ODI average. Just curious - Can you post away test avgs of all Indian batsmen post 2011 WC? Please include the retired veterans too so that we can get a clearer picture. And all those players are gone, aren't they? Sachin was arguably the finest batsmen of his generation, which was one of the prime reasons for his longer run, more than fame or money. Yet, Dhoni has had a longer run. Why include the retired veterans when they were criticized and were removed unlike Dhoni? Kohli and Pujara have decent average. So does Vijay.

I can argue that dhoni continue with the same set of players even after repeated failures. If dont need to give samples here. :P 3) Average of 25 is not good. But still did better than established veterans and young guns.

mancalledsting Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 But...but...but we have never had a WK batsman as good as him so lets keep him even if he is performing so badly. And even if we have so many better wk batsmen at the moment

Still Vijay is doing a stellar job 2) We are comparing since 2011, same time period, isn't it? Sachin had awesome stats in 2010. Dravid still had good stats when he retired. However, both of them are gone. with Sachin being latest. Dhoni is still there. 3) No it is not. Pujara, Kohli, Vijay all average more than him. Karthik averages 35+ in his last 3 years of overseas tour. Established veterans who sucked were asked to leave or retired

Note:- Above views are applicable only to cricket. I dont need to comment about your political views , which everyone knows here. You know the same thing about basic psychology as you do about posting Even defending, hating, anything, people have the courtesy to make their points instead of smart one liners each and every time. Even the worst lover or hater, if he is eloquent and puts his point properly can be a very good addition to a forum as a forum needs both kinds of debate. However, what is sure to kill a forum is trolling posts after trolling posts, never sticking to the topic at hand, always making only one liners and smiley face and wanting to only rile up other posters and actually considering it a victory when that is achieved This is nothing to do with moderation or getting banned at all, this forum is very lenient compared to others. But intentionally baiting others (which you proudly proclaim - "it is easy to troll so and so fans, etc"), is a completely bannable offense on most forums
vijay50 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 I would rate Kiran More's average of 28.07 much higher than Dhoni's averaof 29.13. He always played very gritty innings in overseas tests and added lot of valuable runs in company of Manoj Prabhakar and Kapil Dev. He averages just 20 in India while much better outside shows he responded to demanding situations unlike Dhoni. Just wonder in away test matches how many such innings Dhoni has played taking match situation and bowling attack in account as More played here in first innings. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63564.html The recent trent bridge test was an example. He potentially paired with Vijay at 178/ 4 and took the score beyond 350 making a strong statement in opening test. You can say Vijay scored century and so on, but if he didnt partner with Dhoni who knows what he would have made. You can say Kiran more is better, but his numbers were lower than Dhoni.I see the context , but Dhoni is not bad as keeper batsman. Yeah he can improve his batting consistency a bit outside asia, but it may happen if he gives up test captaincy.
maniac Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Dhoni is bits and pieces-His primary skill is keeping and he is bad at it overseas-Standing way too behind,Missing catches,Letting catches go through to slip etc. Now his batting should have been an added bonus but it isn't earth shattering enough. Verdict-Time to move on fast

CSK Fan Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 one of my area of interest is psychology :winky: What you are talking about is confirmation bias and backfire effect. This is inherent in every human being and not just me. Confirmation bias makes you see only what you want to see. So when you are shown 10 topics, half praising Dhoni and half blasting him, you will read and remember the former, while just skim through and forget the later. In your mind, you will think, every praises Dhoni. Backfire effect is when someone is shown a negative article about something he likes, that negative article, even if full of facts, will only help you solidify your support more for what you like Every human being has these biases and I will not pretend I don't have them. However, it is how you present your support or hate which makes for the quality of the posts, not the stand you take. Now I am the one derailing the thread :cantstop:

Kohli did ok in SA and NZ
