Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Yes its dead.We dont have batsmen who can score runs.We hyped up Pujara and Kohli and their continous failings againist England have showed that they are no world class test batsmen.Our openers just have one fifty partnership outside India since 2011.Dhoni is a hack in tests.That leaves us with Rahane who has shown some promise. Our spinners cant take wickets on overseas pitches.Pragyan Ojha may be a tad better but he is unproven. Our Pace bowlers have shown promise.Bhuvi has bowled very well and Aaron seemed to have become better.Yadav may be as good as Aaron,if not better. But we cant win test matches oversease with this line up.Even at home,our batsmen's failings againist Moeen Ali has shown that we cant prepare spining pitches at home and hope to win for sure. Unless the next crop of Indian batsman come up in may be next 7-8 years we will be dead as a test team and struggle away from home even in LOIs. RIP Indian cricket!!!! No one in the team has yet proven himself to be good enough for long in test cricket.Whom do we give captaincy to? People who are struggling to perform? About time we realise that it will be a long time before Indian team can be good enough.

Did Graeme Smith establish himself before he got the captaincy? Ganguly was no more established than Virat Kohli today when he got the captaincy in 2000. That is just a defensive argument to keep continuing with a failed leader. I mean how worse can it get than losing a test match in just over 2 days and the captain calls that a progress! Give it to someone else. If he is good enough he would come out just fine. Otherwise appoint someone else in a year's time. Keep doing that until you find a proper leader. Surely it can't get any worse than this.

True Sunnyji.The most discouraging aspect is that even established and dropped cricketers like Sehwag, Harbhajan etc are not playing county cricket in their off time now to get back in tests.They are happy playing IPL, make money and relax.What you can expect from young cricketers.Even captain Dhoni took a break from test series in SL tests, but never missed IPL.No wonder things are worse.

Dhoni is captain not because he is a great captain but because there is a lack of choice.

IPL was given preference..even playing injured...skipping WI series...& heck...letting a chance of victory was let go. IMO that WI series is when our team started dying. & then when we got walloped 4-0 in Eng...we didn't made any hard call....& the death was complete. After that...its just one excuse after another by team. & I agree...it will be probably 7-8 years away from a decent turnaround (since MSD might stick with our team that long).

When we won the Lord's test, people were praising this team like anything.. i said, in case, if we lose one game then all hell will break lose. And that's what's happening.. Now that we have lost two games, we are the worst team ever. Have some perspective people.. we got players, just that we are not applying it well. Here is what we are missing.. One good opener to partner with Murali Vijai One good spinner who can take at least 6-7 good wickets 5th Match will be hard fought from our side..

I'm not as upset with these loses as I was back in 2011. Of course Dhoni needs to hang his boots from the captaincy but this is a good young bunch and they are gonna go a long way for India!
