Midfielder Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 IPL is not the problem and I personally dont care.
Sooda Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Inherent colonial inferiors complex, we must do well in a format which traditionally our English masters have done well in, never mind we don't have experienced players, the ones we have are skilled in the wrong format, and yet we agree to play 5 test matches in their backyard, taking their abuses and then tried in kangaroo courts where we are humiliated. And yet we want our players to beat those guys. The perennial hunt for the fishing compliments out of the white man so that we can feel better huh? Ipl is our format, a thing which hundreds of millions have immediately taken to, it's become a behemoth, defying all white men prophecies that it would fail in a few years, yet instead have grown and helped bcci to ha e cricket by its balls. And yet what do we see? We deserve what we get. Instead of standing by and rooting for our players, their strengths and their skill sets we waste no time in taking them to the cleaners, somehow get happiness from wrist slitting and berating them instead of looking dispassionately and objectively at the issue in hand. We are making sprinters play in the marathon, a marathon which can't survive without money generated from sprints. Seriously guys, chill. Not long ago we were no 1 at this 'wrong format'. Its the wrong format for us NOW because we have made it as such.
fineleg Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Not long ago we were no 1 at this 'wrong format'. Its the wrong format for us NOW because we have made it as such. Well said Sooda. 'These grapes are sour' business going on. They want 6 months of thoothukudi circus Why? Coz our batsmen are pants!!! Lol I dont think chepu, kohli, vijay, rahane are pants. They have the ability, but BCCI needs to provide disclipined and sustained training in Test cricket technique. And stop messing them with circus lack-of-technique!

Laaloo Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 coincidentally dhoni fans were the same ones to give dhoni credit for making india go to number one but now its the batsmens fault. these same batsmen will score runs in Australia and then Dhoni will blame bowlers :cantstop:
BeautifulGame Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Not long ago we were no 1 at this 'wrong format'. Its the wrong format for us NOW because we have made it as such. Even then most Indians didn't care about it .We are also no.1 in Archery as well so what. What matters is the fans interest which shows ODIs and IPL are the ones that matter and ones interest fans in india
PBN Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 you can take out 'champions league' for starters. that serves no purpose considering there's already IPL.
BeautifulGame Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 you can take out 'champions league' for starters. that serves no purpose considering there's already IPL. That's to give some revenue to all other boards who send players to IPL .
yoda Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I would like to see the BCCI tell the players to pick IPL or test cricket and see who decides to give up IPL for the sake of tests. From the current lot, other than Pujara, I can't see any other player opting tests over IPL.
BeautifulGame Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 How many here would opt for 5 days a week job when u can get 10 times that salary in 2 hrs a month . People just like being hypocrites

People just like being hypocrites But the claim is there is no IPL without test cricketers. I say, make players pick one or the other and we will see who opts for which format. :winky:

Brainfade Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I wonder if you would feel the same if you were a talented, fringe cricketer from rural India trying to eke out a living playing the game. For its faults, the IPL has provided a venue for 100s of players to experience the big stage, learn from stalwarts and in many cases, pull themselves out of poverty. Against this backdrop, the survival of test cricket and your romantic notions of it should be of least concern.

Exactly International cricket itself is skewed because while if you are a NZ, your chances of making it to the team is 1 in 2 million (that's population of NZ) whereas in India you got to compete against three quarters of a billion. That's a joke really and how many lives are burnt up without anyone knowing and yet the selections seem to be based on whims and fancies of a few old farts. That kind of stats is simply unsustainable, imagine someone like Badrinath who waited, waited and waited, performed like Bradman whenever he got opportunity and finally when he got his chance, was over the hill and now is remembered as someone who "failed". Failed? Lol, hardly. International cricket alone CANNOT do justice to the huge population in India - aspirations of crores of aspiring cricketers cannot be bottlenecked by centuries old structure which rewards only the top 15-20 guys. Hence completely welcome IPL. Even in its current form, its still not representative of our country. The need is to slightly expand the number of teams, without compromising on the quality and then building feeder stuctures like European football leagues - which vertically go all the way upto municipalities.
amiret Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Inherent colonial inferiors complex' date= we must do well in a format which traditionally our English masters have done well in, never mind we don't have experienced players, But why would you want India to do well in ANY format of the game ? Since the GAME itself has been bequeathed to India by it's colonial masters. Those who prefer test matches suffer from aforesaid complex and those who prefer T20's do not ? All the fans suffer from this "complex" , that is why we have made cricket the most popular sport in India.

That's pretty stupid - English is a language given to indians by British - but has been adapted and given the Indian flavour that it is a distinct form of english these days. Similarly, cricket might have been brought to our country by British, but the key is in adapting it to our markets, tastes and acceptability. Isn't it? Choose the format that suits best to us and then give it our flavour and make it our own. That is the wisest thing to do, rather than trying to put up with a totally foreign format for which we neither have the aptitude nor the skills, isn't it? Imagine if someone from canada comes and says that we aren't good at hockey because we suck at playing ice hockey, a format they regard as most superior. Isn't that ridiculous (ok we suck at actual hockey as well, but u get my point)
Sooda Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Of course when we were no 1 it wasnt the IPL generation Im not sure to what extent we can blame it though: Are we saying that guys like Kumar and Shami were bowled out over the 2 months of IPL not long before Eng tour. Maybe Kohlis flashiness outside off stump is a symptom of T20 cricket. We know he can bat in tests, he has done so in Aus and SA. They havent suddenly become poor batsmen. We should note of course Vijay has gone from a guy whos scores tons in IPL finals to decent test opener- I dont think he can combine those two modes, seems like he has made a choice. IPL is not going to go anywhere we need to work around it... a good break between it and test series for players to get their techniques right and mindsets right- mind you there was a 3 weeks or so this time but perhaps it should include a prep camp of sorts... having 5 tests packed in such a short time dosent help..

Preference for a format of an English game is not indicative of a "Inherent colonial inferiors complex" or lack thereof.
