So you see now, 5 bowlers for current Indian team is suicidal

Ashwin is our 6th batsman. Very . idea of going for 6th batsman was under the pretext dhoni is a walking wicket. Turned out he has put up his hand too along with Ashwin. They both more than made up for no 6 batsman. If anything if he had gone with 5 proper bowling option from the get go and USED them all bhuvan might not have been this ineffective or Ishant might not have broken down' date='. Our bowling would have been more potent. But most of iCFers warned this scenario in a 5 test series which we are playing after 17 years with young and inexperienced bowling unit. One could see it from miles bowling would suffer due to fatigue . That is exactly why 6 batsmen selection in third test caused a cascading effect and our bowlers lost our potency completely.[/quote'] People debating for and against the extra batsman .... both have merit. I don't think there is an easy answer. Ideally, we need a proper batsman who can bowl seam-up too. In this team there is perhaps no player outside the playing 11, batsmen or bowler, who can make an actual difference. If we had a pacer like Umesh ... who can actually take wickets ... I would have picked an extra bowler. Guys like Binny and Jadeja ( in England ) are neither batsmen, nor bowlers. That has been our problem. We are basically playing with 10 men.

Could have gone with Ishant , Aaron , bhuvan, shami,Ashwin in that case. Use Aaron in short bursts.

Southampton move killed us. Later getting owned by Moeen Ali broke our spirits. Bad form didn't help either.

Its not just about our batters We are up against two pacers at peak of powers, making the ball talk on pitches tailored for them. Makes it even more suicidal and frankly bonkers to take this on with only 5 batsman. 34-3, here we go again

Problem is with our bowlers' date=' pitch looks totally different when Anderson and Broad are bowling.[/quote'] and our fielders and our captain.

8-4, 66-6 43-5, 30-3 Conclusion - The problem is with our bowlers.
:--D Unless we post 275+ scores its had to win test matches.

Lets continue with the suicide Dhoni at 6 , FFS At number 7 walks in daddies boy. Jeez Batting pathetic so we go in with 5 frigging batters. Some posters showing dhoni like stubbornness. So 5 bats not doing well, so the logic goes why have 6, 6 wont score runs either. What kind of logic is this, hardly great strategy or thinking. Lets extend this insanity logic. Number 1 and 2 bats are not scoring runs, whats the point of having a number 3 he also will be useless and not score runs

Batting is doing worse than bowling. So, 6 proper batters can be taken. But, I personally think that it is immaterial who we play or what combination we play. There is some deeper rooted problem connected to lack of team spirit, motivation and will to play. Even the inform players like Vijay, Rahane and Bhuvi are failing now. The experts were saying that this usually happens when the dressing room atmosphere is really down and non-motivating.

Not so sure about that. I think in the 5th test both have been equally bad. No way could any team score 486 on a pitch that's doing so much. In the 4th test, agreed batsmen did far worse.

Naw, if 1-6 are batting this poorly a specialist bat at number 7 isn't going to save you. And if he can he should be batting in the top order and on of those other bums should be dropped. Ashwin should be guaranteed a spot at number 6 or 7 for at least 5 test overseas. if you look back at the first test in south africa I think that if we played a bowling attack of ashwin, yadav, ishant, khan and shami in the first test we would have won that match. And if we played Ashwin, jadeja + 3 fast bowlers, in that next match I think we would have had a decent shot at winning that test series 2-0 considering it was a spin friendly pitch with jadeja going on to take a six wicket hall. and in New zealand our 3 specialist fast bowlers went 34 for 1110 with strike rates of 42, 59 and 71 and jadeja went 3 for 257 with a strike rate of 178. It hard to when test matches with only 3 wicket taking options. Plus Indian bowlers don't have the stamina to bowl long spells.

Agree. Even if played 6 batters would have still got thrashed. We are pathetic, no desire
