Why this hesitancy in sacking Fletcher when no powers are left ..why should he be carried along with Shastri ,Bangar and B.Arun . Are they fearing a termination clause due to which sacking Fletcher formally would lead to a large payout ???

BCCI set to sack Duncan Fletcher following India's poor show in England With Ravi Shastri being appointed as the Director of the Indian cricket team, the days of current chief coach Duncan Fletcher seems to be numbered as there is a question mark about his presence during the upcoming home series against the West Indies. Pretty much,his contract must have a release clause under a stipulated period hence bcci are reluctant to pay off the extra bucks,very common in football clubs. So the end result is dhoni safe,Duncan donuts made the scapegoat!! This was expected all along and even the media is vocal and apprehended on this issue

Shastri's column on Tuesday: 'glam boys' and penance Ravi Shastri's column in the Times of India on Tuesday was full of strong stuff. He called India's showing in the Test series "wretched" and said it remained to be seen if the team was ready to do "penance".

"Five sessions and not five days have been enough to nail them," he wrote. "But move on we must. Sit back and watch if these glam boys are ready for penance. If they are prepared to plunge their bare hands into the coal of fire and start from scratch. "England have made runs, but anyone would if the other side makes 100 or so."

^^ Flak from senior cricketers and experts. I would love to see BCCI find a new captain, but I don't see that happening immediately, given the TINA factor. After Kohli's abysmal form / performance this series, it is horrible timing to burden him with additional responsibility. I'm sure captaincy would be considered seriously once Kohli shows some stability in Tests, which unfortunately is likely to happen only after the Aus series. Even if they were to change the captain, I would still have Dhoni as my keeper in tests until WC 2015. BCCI has never been proactive with respect to captaincy changes, nor have they been fans of dual captaincy for different formats (except for a brief period before Dhoni became test captain).

Looks like a transition move to include guys like Bangar and co. They want to see how they do. Bangar could very well be the next coach. Though including the possible future coach with the current one is a strange move. Ravi Shastri seems to be there so there aren't any unwanted conflicts.

Brilliant political move this by the BCCI, appointing its stooge as coach. Until now they had been less blatant but they now have a chance to use an unprecedented situation in Indian cricket history to completely stamp its authority, at a time when nobody would question such a move but hail it as "progressive thinking" I think Shastri's main role as Director will be to prepare and edit Dhoni's lines at post-match press conferences. I can already visualise Dhoni talking about "tracer bullets"

Now all of a sudden they are ringing in the changes with less than a year left (which of course should have happened a lot earlier). It would be interesting to see what happens in our next test series because that is where the humiliation has been faced by this team.

These exit clauses in contracts are atrocious sometimes - one really needs to look into the details before making a detailed comment. Most times, it isn't just "some money". In addition, these contracts have some conditions which should be agreed upon. CA didn't know the ramifications of sacking Arthur. I think Arthur pressed charges a month after and CA-Arthur made an out of court settlement. It didn't show CA in great light btw and it was something that could be avoided. Anyways, lets stick to the cricket and leave the legal matters aside.
