Last i checked, the congress has been at odds with CPI, CPM, CPIM for 90% of its existence. Don't get me wrong, this is propaganda BS of the highest order but i fail to see where the Das Capital or Communist Manifesto angle to this... Political parties always oppose each other. That is irrespective of ideologies whether same or different. Ideologically Congress is pretty much left leaning. More so in education system. If you see a lot of historians whose research goes into text books are your typical JNU jholawala Marxists. Harbans Mukhia, DN Jha etc types.

To call them one and the same, is like calling any man who identifies himself as a hindu the same as a RSS cult leader. Yes, neither of them believe in unbridled capitalism- and in a way that is a good thing, but they are NOT communists, the congress are center-left in their economic and social policies. As for our education system, i am quite happy with it. Our kids would do much much better with a basic grasp of history in high school and our textbooks offer far more than just basic history. KG to 12 is the place to develop skills for life. Stuff like sciences,math,languages, geography, physical education, art. In the grand scheme of children's development, the least important topic to learn for children is what some dead guy did to another dead guy a few hundred years ago. Yes, some basic milestones are important but beyond that, they have their whole freaking life to learn about their own history should they wish. If i could, i would swap out history for cooking class- its far more useful to the budding young adults to learn how to cook some food and be independent and flexible in their choices than argue over who is worse between Bhaktiyar Khilji and Mehmoud Ghazni...

Although they were withdrawn. Been long since I last checked but I have seen the names of likes of Ramchandra Guha, DN Jha in NCERT Class XI,XII history books reference section something named like "read more at" section. My POV in this is at least you can put voices of some right wing and neutral writers too to balance it.

Well, both have been more of ideological ally at the central level. Communists due to lack of their presence have been supporting Congress when they see a right wing BJP(farther from their ideology) challenging Congress. You can see even at the time of emergency CPI sided with Congress in 1977 elections. As for our education system, i am quite happy with it. Our kids would do much much better with a basic grasp of history in high school and our textbooks offer far more than just basic history. KG to 12 is the place to develop skills for life. Actually.......having graduated from the CBSE system not more than 4 years ago.......I can quite confidently say that the history we are thought is fairly left leaning.......I remember studying about Leninism and Communism in 9th grade history.....particularly in the context of Russia.....it was portrayed as a revolutionary ideology (it was), more or less painting the Bolsheviks as saints.......however, there was no contrarian view provided on how the Socialist system killed millions........very little mention of Stalin, Mao (communist) or Pol Pot (communist)......certainly wasn't balanced.......

Only the Mughal empire's rule, particularly Akbar's was shown under a sympathetic light. Aurengzeb was clearly portrayed as a villain. As for whitewashing some of the barbarism, it was to the same extent most of the other world history was done, Nazism and world war was white-washed too. it was not thought of as suitable for youngsters Well, all that might not be a bad thing also? No matter how much we try to pretend, our demographics are what it is now. Why rake up ghosts of the pasts to make our present uncomfortable? What will it achieve? There is a reason even mention of Nazism is a crime in Germany today even though it was a big part of their history

What is the deficiency in history being taught in schools now? I learnt history and it was just fine. I didn't miss anything.

But the balanced history argument is a fail in my opinion because to balance a historical perspective, is to get overly analytical- how do you balance an info-based subject without presenting more and more info ? Which means the only way you can have a truly balanced perspective on history is if you do a masters level rigorous book on it- which beats the whole point of high school education, where history is the least important subject.
