Crookbond Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 In UP, community bans mobiles for girls to fight ‘love jihad’ http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/In-UP-community-bans-mobiles-for-girls-to-fight-love-jihad/articleshow/41472311.cms AGRA: An influential committee of vaishyas in Uttar Pradesh has asked school girls from the community to stop using cell phones to save themselves from falling prey to "love jihad". In what is perhaps a first for an urban association with such reach and influence, the Akhil Bharitiya Vaishya Ekta Parishad (ABVEP), a committee of vaishyas (mostly traders by caste), has decided to ban the use of mobile phones by school-going girls and teenagers, staring with Agra. At a meeting of traders and industry welfare associations in the city, attended by more than thousand participants including Union minister for micro, small and medium enterprises, Kalraj Mishra, ABEVP national president Sumant Gupta said the move to ban cellphones for the community's girls was needed as the Samajwadi Party government in the state offered "special privileges to a particular community", leaving other communities vulnerable. This is perhaps the first time such a move is being discussed by an urban body — unlike khaps — with relatively wealthy members. The caste group hopes to keep girls up to Class XII free of mobile phones, and thus less vulnerable to the lures of men from a particular community. Gupta contended that electronic gadgets and the internet were ruining the careers and lives of young people. "Such things (mobiles, internet) lead young minds to fall in the "love jihad" trap. We are saddened and alarmed by the rising numbers of such cases in the state, especially when vaishya girls are involved. We have no option but to take precautions," Gupta said. Outlining the ABEVP's plan, Gupta said his organization would form units of youth and women across the state, drawn from the vaishya caste, to counsel teenagers against using mobile phones. "We will convince them politely, with love. There will be no pressure or force. Karate training will be given to girls so they can protect themselves from anti-social elements and love jihadis," Gupta said. Reacting to Gupta's comments, SSP Shalabh Mathur said the term "love jihad" had been coined only to create fear and divide society along communal lines. Zishan Ahmed, a post-graduate student at Baba Saheb Bheemrao Ambedkar University, reacted with dismay. "These diktats are bewildering and humiliating for youngsters of both communities," he said. Surendra Sharma, a city-based social activist, wasn't too pleased either. "The level of distrust between the two communities is more and more evident. This is happening because those who polarized people before the Lok Sabha elections now enjoy ministerial posts in state and Union cabinets," he said. :isalute:
Vilander Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 There are lots of things sisters should be protected from. In fact I would think focusing on things like love jihads will take attention away from more serious problems which are statistically more possible to happen to a woman. A woman in India is statistically much more likely to be raped or killed for dowry than be a victim of love jihad. hmm yeah but no. you have no locus standi in what he thinks he should protect his family from, so you should just keep out of that one holla.. :two_thumbs_up:
Vilander Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I believe this love jihad thingy is a ploy to get votes which works by exploiting the anxiety in hindu society about larger numbers converting to islam. If this anxiety is real' date=' then there are better ways to go about solving this problem. Fix the problems like caste discrimination and gender inequality in hindu society. Many of the folk who have converted to other religions might come back and fewer will convert in the future. But since this will not get votes, nobody does anything about it.[/quote'] very true, and it will aid further radicalization, most of the Muslims that i know are hard working peeps, wont raise their kids to be love jihadis or any jihadis...well who knows but then. No outrage shown from their community on large scale as yet, has to happen to quash it.
Raghav_12 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 hmm yeah but no. you have no locus standi in what he thinks he should protect his family from' date=' so you should just keep out of that one holla.. :two_thumbs_up:[/quote'] then he can very well protect, why he has to put that on a public forum?
hhunaeh Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 In UP' date= community bans mobiles for girls to fight ‘love jihad’ http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/In-UP-community-bans-mobiles-for-girls-to-fight-love-jihad/articleshow/41472311.cms :isalute: They will then move on to policing and attacking couples, especially women, in parks, hotels and colleges. This is how it progressed in karnataka, and it resulted in a lot of anger against the bjp, which i believe contributed to the downfall of yeddy govt but I fear UP is too far gone for a similar backlash to happen, but you can always count on the stupidity of bhakts to push their vote grabbing agenda one step too far.

Detonator Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 It's a 5 yr old news, but still it's a dangerous thing what Kerela HC said http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2009-12-10/news/28410696_1_love-jihad-religious-conversions-religions Kerala HC asks govt to frame laws to stop ‘love jihad’ KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday found indications of 'forceful' religious conversions under the garb of 'love' in the state, and asked the government to consider enacting a law to prohibit such 'deceptive' acts. "Under the pretext of love, there cannot be any compulsive, deceptive conversion," the court said. After perusing the case diary in 'love jihad' cases, justice Sankaran concluded that there were indications of forceful religious conversions. From some of the police reports, it was clear there was a 'concerted' effort to convert girls of a particular religion to another with the "blessings of some outfits", he said. This should be of concern to people at large and government was bound to protect the fundamental rights of citizens, the court said, and asked the legislature to consider enactment of law to prohibit compulsive conversion of religious faiths. Any use of force for propagation of religion was illegal and may cause law and order problems, justice Sankaran observed. Quoting statistics, the court said during the last four years, 3,000-4,000 religious conversions had taken place after love affairs. According to reports by special branch of police, fundamental outfits like National Democratic Front (NDF) and Campus Front have roots in college campuses in various cities, it said. As per available information, the plan was to 'trap' brilliant upper caste Hindu and Christian girls from well-to-do families. Though there was no evidence so far to show 'love jihad' has operations all over India, it was said the programme was started in 1996 with blessings of some Muslim organisations, the court observed. The court had earlier dismissed the anticipatory bail applications of Shanshah and Sirajuddin, two youths who had eloped with girls belonging to Hindu and Christian religions.
Crookbond Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Keep Muslim men off garba venues to stop love jihad: BJP MLA http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/keep-muslim-men-off-garba-venues-to-stop-love-jihad/ “If they (Muslim youths) want to take part in the festival, they should first convert to Hinduism. Muslim youths hoodwink the organisers by sporting tilak on their forehead and get inside the venue to mingle with Hindu girls. I am going to write to the organisers to insist on electoral identity cards for men and allow only Hindu men inside the venue,’’ she said. .... “Women lack self confidence and can gain it by chanting shlokas and mantras devoted to goddess Durga,’’ Thakur told The Indian Express.
