fineleg Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 The quintessential slogger was one of the top scorer in Ranji Elite Group last season. Despite that, he is one downright cowlasher - S. Tiwary Have u seen him bat? Yuck!!!
rkt.india Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Despite that, he is one downright cowlasher - S. Tiwary Have u seen him bat? Yuck!!! Everyone cowlashes in T20.
gaurav92 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 There are two different ways these guys bat in IPL and Ranji. They may be technically sound, but they resort to mindless slogging because of 3 things :- 1. They don't know how to play the situation because they aren't experienced enough. 2. They tend to think that T20 is all about slogging, as people will only remember if we hit big sixes, and some amount of recognition is all they want from IPL. 3. They think IPL is the platform where the world can see them, and most of these either play a few games and many are sent down when there aren't many overs left, so the best they can think of is to hit big sixes and be known. However, we see a different batsman in the domestic circuit, one that is technically sound, one that leaves the ball outside the off stump, one that plays the authentic cover drive etc. So, don't judge a batsman from his performances in IPL/CL.
bowl_out Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 How could anyone forget the quintessential slogger in IPL ? - Saurabh Tiwary. Others are Sunny Sohal Paul Valthatty Yogesh Nagar Venugopal Rao T Suman Aditya Tare Swapnil Asnodkar And he got an India cap for that... Almost lost a match with his tuk tuks :giggle: Good list. Few more : Anirudha Srikanth Rayudu (he has had a decent domestic run, but a cowlasher nevertheless) Mayank Agrawal R Satish

rkt.india Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Today's knock of Manon Vohra remainded me some IPL onetimewonder hits who hasnt done anything much other than IPL. Vohra plays some classy shots and nor the first time he played an innings like this and he is just 20-21. Weak against short ball doesnt make him a hack. Pandey too has played several good innings after that and has a very good FC record too, played a big role in Karnataka winning Ranji trophy last season.
zubinpepsi Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 this sky is a big time cowlasher' date='a pakka lapeda though pretty entertaining yes.. he has only one shot.. and he swings.. i cant believe how the teams were feeding him...

However, we see a different batsman in the domestic circuit, one that is technically sound, one that leaves the ball outside the off stump, one that plays the authentic cover drive etc. So, don't judge a batsman from his performances in IPL/CL. Slogging is actually a theoretically optimal way of batting in T20. 0 (1) is a better result than 30 (30) especially on good wickets where 180+ is par. In fact slow batting and scoring 40 (35) etc is selfish and such batsmen lose matches for their teams. This is why KXIP perform so well. They all slog, and it isn't a huge problem if 2 or 3 of them go for quick dismissals. It's a team game. Most runs scored at the top order (unless very fast) are runs that somebody else would have scored if that batsman had got out. They do actually know how to play the situation, but as I explained, the situation almost always demands hitting. In fact a few like Manish Pandey, KL Rahul etc are too slow and selfish batsmen. Pandey only made an exception for the finals. Vohra has succeeded almost every game, albeit he's a bit too slow at times and his sluggish selfish effort cost KXIP the finals.
Texy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 How did that V Rao ever get into an IPL team? He must've good connections in Hyd.
