its a practical matter in theory yes the government should be building all sorts of things. In practice the more efficient way to deliver sporting infra remains with the private sector. By making things tax free you provide incentives for investment.

Most people are yet to get my point. Let me make it for specific. Why should the government provide incentives for profitable investment in sports in the form of "tax exemptions"? :dontknow: Should government also provide tax free investments for SaReGaMaPa, ACM ICPC Programming Contest, India's Got talent to attract better "talent"? Each one of these are profit making bodies with profit being the sole motive. I don't see any reason for the government to be involved.

It's cricket and precious little anything else. private players are reluctant to step in because of unattractive regulations and uncertainty surrounding demand for the product. Hence a fillip by government in the form of lower taxes or a tax holiday will make the cost-benefit equation better from the private players' point of view. We are looking for PPP these days as the best model to take our economy forward, the govt's participation being facilitating a conducive environment. A less "taxing" atmosphere will be the first step towards it.

I think making more playgrounds throughout the country would be great for people's health which won't help us win medals but is far more important than that. For medals, athletes should be selected at a young age and trained year-round for international competitions in specific sports. This is what China does.

See, when you post here - you tell it to "us" not just me, right? Let me make it specific - Sports is entertainment in its primal form. I don't see why government should invest in entertanment.
