In case Final and reserve day (if any) are washed out, why can't some criteria like wins in league matches, net run rate, etc be used? They will still be performances from the same tournament and as long as all teams are aware of rules prior to tournament , it seems fair - will also add some spice to meaningless matches with minnows ( not tempting fate here :nervous: ) Or we use the useless ODI rankings - higher ranked team before the WC will be winner in case final is washed out. Atleast the rankings will derive some meaning.

Probability of a tie is low..so relax guys
I don't mind a joint-winner in case of a tie, in fact that is much better than a super over... The concern is over a wash-out or reduced-over-match

It was shared after even the reserve day was washed out. Here there is no reserve day at all
Actually, both days were not completely wiped out. On the main day, the first innings was completed. SL batted and I think India had started batting. On reserve day, it was treated as a new match and SL again batted and rains again prevented India from chasing. If you think about the fact that 2 innings were able to complete, had the match not needed to be restarted, we could have had a single winner.

If there are thunderstorms for a week in Australia / NZ in the last week of Mar' date=' then there would be 4 joint winners, if no semis are played?[/quote'] Don't know what's in the playing conditions, but the team with the better record in the league phase might progress to the final. The semi-final between Aus and SA in 1999 had finished in a tie and Aus went to the final on account of their better record in the Super Six stage.

ODI matches can't be taken across days - One Day International. There are other problems - weather, pitch state etc. - it becomes problematic.

If you know the sporting landscape in Australia you will know why. The cricket whilst it is critical, and I love cricket...it is smack bang in the middle of the AFL season and the AFL get priority access from March-September. The AFL won't allow extra days/extra week of having no access to the MCG as it is they hated giving it up for this tournament. There won't be a tie anyway.

Daniel Brettig @danbrettig So the World Cup next year will have joint winners in the event of a tie or a no result. I'm sorry but I can't agree with that... #cricket Personally find it ridiculous as well. No reserve day? No super over?
Superover? It is not T20. Should have had a reserve day.

You can't! That is the point the ground for better word 'belongs' to the AFL from March-September. As it is the AFL has been reasonable. If anything they should have reduced the group stage time. Then they would have the reserve days.

Seriously? Its the ****ing WC final. Why not have a reserve day for it?
You negotiate with the AFL then, it isn't that easy. You realise it is the cricket WC's fault for having ridiculously long group stages. You don't need reserve days. The AFL own the ground during this period, they aren't going to give the ground up for extra days. I love cricket, but lets not complain about this, the WC could have had a shorter group stage.

The final is on a Sunday and I don't think there will be a grand final for preseason on a Monday, even if it is, it'll be at the docklands. Anyway, AFL has nothing to do with it. It's ICCs fault all the way.

The AFL changed their season for the World Cup. It takes a long time to get grounds ready for football. They already pushed the season back they won't do any more. Cut out a week of the group stage it isn't hard!
