Serious lack of legit pacers in domestic cricket

Been watching higlights of some of the Vijay Hazare matches on youtube. For anyone who doesn't know there is good coverage on the Willow TV youtube account. So good timepass Its frustrating and almost embarrassing to see that majority of the pacers are barely crossing the 75mph mark when playing for top teams like Delhi and Mumbai. Its worse considering this is at a time when I have been fed the impression that our fast bowling resources have taken a turn for the better with the arrival of Yada, Aaron, Shami etc. Despite the improvements is the last decade, I feel that we are still way behind the level where we should be. I feel that we have way too many teams competing, which allows lulloos like the ones in the Delhi team to make a breakthrough in the domestic squads. Def need to bring down the number of teams as it brings down the quality and competition these guys have to face. All In all I have to say that the domestic scene does not look that promising. Has anyone else been following these matches and whats their opinion

East zone has the fastest pacers in the country ... followed by Central / North Zones. Sadly ...South Zone , which has produced one of the quickest pacers ever from our country, now does not have even 1 pacer who can bowl 135 k + often. Their pacer selection policy needs a second look.

So you watched highlights on YouTube of domestic limited over tournament and got this conclusion ? Truth is thre have been plenty of young bowlers and many of them are making into India team and India a team and you cannot compare quality of one domestic Indian team with likes of Australia that system is different and much more efficient but if you see amount of bowlers with potential produced in last 3 or 4 years it has been pretty good and many of them being up there with quickest in world and best part is they all have different style as some are swing bowler while some hit the deck Where India loses is next step of development when in team but I am seeing some Improvement now with bowlers emphasising on pace lot more

There are lots of right arm pacer in the reckoning, but Iam worried about the left armer.Every body talks about Pawan Suyal but I don't think he is regular in the Delhi Ranji side also.

Domestic cricket does lack quick bowlers. Except some teams who have 1 or at best 2, most teams do not have bowlers who bowl even over 135K in FC. Most are swing seam bowlers operating in 125-130 range.

We should play more zonal matches . The pacers there are quicker and more bouncy. There are so many states that their teams are usually low quality.
Yep quality of cricket would also be better and I will watch it unlike ranji which can be joke when you think about weaker teams

I had written about it a few years back that Duleep should be our premier tournament not Ranji. Ranjji should be used as Supply tourny for Duleep where players perform and get picked for Duleep trophy teams and Duleep should be played on a league basis, two matches against every team, total 8 matches, not knockout. Both can be played simultaneously. Players who fail in Duleep can be demoted to Ranji while top performers in Ranji can be promoted to Duleep half way through the tournament.

Australia have similar number of teams and they seem to be doing well ..

India and Aus both are different cannot compare them. India has a huge population that is why that many teams are needed too. Ranji is as significant in that regard, but get better competition make Duleep Trophy #1 tournament.

When you are 5 feet and seven inches, can lift no more than 30 kg, have the back of a 80 year old Australian woman, you run like a snail, and have match stick arms and jalebi bellies, how the hell are you going to bowl fast?

were the under 19 guys (chama milind, avesh khan and monu kumar) not playing vijay hazare and deodhar trophy? they were really impressive with all them crossing 135+ on a consistent basis. those 3 guys + bumrah are not that bad a list of young quicks. as sabby mentioned its their growth after they join indian team which is teh real concern.

Avesh Khan and Monu did not play VH trophy. Avesh is included in MP Ranji squad.

Pitches are the reason. You cant have many quick bowlers with such pattas.
We either have phattas or have "false" green tops that allow mediocre pace bowlers to pick up easy wickets without the need to bang in the ball - this is the equivalent of mine field for spinners. Neither of these are good for pace bowlers. May be it is the soil/weather here that is preventing us from having proper greenish wickets that rewards only good fast bowlers, but if possible we should create such pitches here.

Actually, flat decks should increase the chance of good nd pacy pacers as is the case with Pak and even Aussies have a lot of flat decks with good bounce. Issue with India is that, these days we have lots of green wickets which help bowlers like Vinay, Mohit, An Oriya pacer and a lot of others trundlers and spinning wickets help even mediocre spinners. Hence, we first need to impact trainings to our groundsmen on how to prepare a pitch which helps everyone and a nice start would be to have a pitch like wankhede which has bounce and that helps both pacers and spinners.
