So, yet again we go on a tour fearing pacers and then dole out wickets to a spinner

Absolutely not. That is exactly what Lyon wants. They need to use their feet. Look at the way Vijay handled him. Using feet is not always an aggressive option' date=' you can also block after getting to the pitch of the ball. It is used to smother the spin.[/quote'] No, Indian batsmen were always known for their backfoot game against spin. Dravid was so quick to go on backfoot and cut and glance. Same was Laxman. Only go on frontfoot when its really full.

Maybe they should start looking to jab/play against the spin. There are just 2 fielders on the off beside the slip. Rest are onside. Force 1 fielder to be moved to the off. WTF in the team brain thrust does. They are watching live..why they don't see these things. I forget...the coach is Fletcher....& his job is to make sure we lose as poorly to Australia as possible & then WC too (after all the previous disaster). BCCI will award him a big BONUS once we crash out of WC.

rahane did but got out. you cant always be on backfoot.
Anyone can get on such delivery. That jumped from good length. Other than that, Rahane was trying to play front foot. He was not on back foot.

Hence the reason they are struggling big time and the team don't have any high quality spinner at all.

These new crop of young Indian batsmen are not very good players of spin, especially on surfaces that offer a little bit of pace and bounce. On dead Indian tracks they can tackle spinners easily as they get time to rock back and play it safely but on overseas pitches it has become a trend to struggle against spinners.

Sehwag or even Gambhir used to cut balls from almost stumps. These Indian batsmen are not good backfoot players and that is so unindian. If you watch every one of them their first instinct is plant front foot forward even against fast bowlers. This was Kohli's major undoing in England.

The best option is to use your feet, get to the pitch of the ball and smother the spin.

Against spinners, batsmen (especially) and keepers (behind stumps) both need nimble and decisive footwork. Footwork is why M.Clarke plays spinners well, as well as former Indian great batsmen. You got to use your feel to the spinners. Modern day Indian batsmen are like goras who are rooted to the crease. Even the great SRT changed his style in latter part (rooted to crease), earlier he used to be super quick to use his feet. Nowadays, many Indian batsmen thadavu-fy (struggle) against good spin.

I don't think they are weak vs spin. They just don't respect the good balls. Most of the dismissals vs spinners have been poor shots. Not lbw/stumping or caught behind, which could hint that they aren't having trouble picking the spinners. Rather they need to start showing spinners some respect and go after the bad ones.

its the bounce' date='they are playing the turn well. Ashwin might have worked in this pitch, but amazed why Ishant is not making it work..perplexing. Last day is about handling pressure, down to Pujara, Vijay and Kholi they bat 80 overs then its a draw if not, adios.[/quote'] You forgot the brainfart by these batsman after they make 30-40 runs.

Clarke is average against spin lol

the footwork is so poor even from someone like Pujara - constantly misjudging the length, no surprise that it ended badly. 200 all out beckoning here unfortunately

You make the bowler bowl short if you give him the impression that you are prepared to use your feet and hit out at him. Pujara's dismissal in both innings is an indication of what is wrong with our batsmen. He was neither forward nor backward and played half-heartedly.

RKT is right - you don't commit to a spinner on the front foot unless the ball is pitched up. That's textbook 101 of spin coaching manual from India with everyone from Vengsarkar (who told this personally to me) to Gavaskar, Shastri will tell you that.

Someone with decisive footwork could've destroyed Lyon as Younus Khan did to him last month. He was not lunging forward aimlessly like Azhar ali or Rohit.

Different pitches, different situations - no comparison....pacers are not effective in UAE and hence there was no pressure created for Lyon to exploit....for starters, where was Harris in UAE...he gives not a penny.... India destroyed Lyon in India much more brutally than YK did in his home pitches in UAE...you can check below :- http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/598814.html If we have to learn something, we can learn from YK's mentor Dravid who is in Aus...YK is on record saying he gained a lot on batting and life ( ask me for link ) by learning and talking to the master Dravid himself...Why talk to pupil when master is personally available?
