Detonator Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 This? It's the reason DRS was introduced in the first place, a team refuses to use it and then whinges about poor desicions, you couldn't make this **** up. Could it be your powers that be want to keep the cushy umpiring ride you guys get at home? DRS would eliminate that after all. The BCCI refuses to use it, and it's us the fans are whining. It's hard for us to watch, and we actually want the board to look into it. We are not the board u see. The fans have nothing against the Aus players.
brendan07 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Are you saying that just because of DRS is available, on field umpires have zero responsibility? 12-2. That says a lot, dude. But, well there's a system to get it done correct... Umpires like batsmen make mistakes, they don't like to but they do. There is a system to correct the absolute howlers, you refused it, really not fair to bash the umpires when they want the system used.
brendan07 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I think DRS should be used. Even if it is not always accurate, as long as the success rate is better than umpires...its usage has merit. That being said....umpires today don't follow some golden rules of umpiring. -- The benefit of doubt goes to the batsman. -- Don't give lbws easily if the ball hits the batsman a long distance away from the stumps...because it may deviate or bounce higher than the stumps. This is increasing the howlers...like the one Rahane got today. It really is inexcusably poor umpiring because of the above reasons. My issue with DRS is the the last part. No issue checking hotspot/snicko, etc. That is fine. Pitching in line, yep check. Struck in line, yes check. My issue is the Hawkeye, which I have seen over and over again be just 'weird'. I would rather the third umpire to use the Hawkeye purely as a guide but not as definate proof.

DRS was there then too so why was whole country whining, it is very easy to say DRS is not there due to your team so tough luck. But what needs to be highlighted is umpires have been so one sided in this series, they have altered the result of this series otherwise Aussies have no business of leading this series 2-0.
vvvslaxman Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Almost all swing bowlers should have a stint there. Helps you immensely . Zak's main point about county stint was how it makes your more independent. It is like freelancing not working for someone. You find ideas, you filter what works for you what doesn't on your own. It is definitely a level above our domestic tournament.

Believe me when I say this...I WASN'T WHINGING over that decision. It was wrong, but I said this over and over again that Clarke is a donkey (and still is) with DRS reviews. Reviews re-set after 80 overs does make sense though as there are a lot of close calls. Australia would still be easily leading the series. India didn't deserve to win Adelaide, no team does with the other side declaring twice, and you were outplayed in Brisbane pretty comfortably. Melbourne was tight, fair drawn result, and this one will be tight.

Broad was caught at first slip though mate, the umpire said he didn't even hit it, that's what I call a howler.

Batsmen nicking it into their pad 2. Batsmen missing the ball 3. Batsmen struck outside the line 4. Ball pitching outside leg. Use the DRS for a guide, if it is hitting middle of middle then overturn it, but too often the ball clipping is being overturned which is silly.

It is Aussies over confidence that they declared Indian team did not force them to declare, Indian team made a match out of it by their spirited chase that itself deserves lot of accolades. SA did not go for win that too at home when they needed only few runs last year. No Aussies would not be leading the series if first test went to India, whole series changes on its head.Remember Gabba test in 2010 Ashes that draw propelled England to that Ashes win.The confidence a visiting team gains by a positive result in first test cannot be understated. Aussies showed they were afraid of India's batting when they delayed the declaration in Melbourne Test. If Rahane was not out then Raina would never come to bat so effectively that decision costed two wickets. ICC should come up with some other way to correct these howlers using third umpire ,how needs to be worked out, it has got nothing to do with DRS.
putrevus Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Broad was caught at first slip though mate' date=' the umpire said he didn't even hit it, that's what I call a howler.[/quote'] Does it matter if it is small howler or big howler, not out is not out, out is out.

India don't deserve to win because Australia declared twice hence critical umpires decision is key moments are accepted. In some other place..you also said when another Indian batsman was given LBW wrongly..that since it was a slog sweep he deserve to be given LBW. The bottom line is that Australia got a lot of bad calls in their favor. That also when India was getting into a position of strength. We can do what ifs...but atleast I am sure that no team can take 10 - 12 bad decisions from umpires specially at key moment and expect to win specially on away tours. That's why I expect the umpires to fix that...during India home stretch. I will have no sympathy for the opposition now if they get 10+ bad calls against them vs 1-2 in their favor when they tour India & lose that way.

If you can't take 20 wickets you don't deserve a positive result. You should have to at the very least take 20 wickets to win a test match. It is why I have been against these ultra attacking declarations from Michael Clarke, you are asking to lose. As for the lbw (Rahane I think?), was a dumb shot. If you are given, so be it. Play it straight down the ground. Not a fan of slogging in test cricket. Every home team gets a few 50/50's. There haven't been a lot of howlers.
MCGGG Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Does it matter if it is small howler or big howler' date=' not out is not out, out is out.[/quote'] My point was he was caught at first slip, an edge to first slip shouldn't need a review system, but in saying that I didn't get the hate for Broad, as Ian Chappell says, if you wanna walk buy a dog.

Considering both teams bowling attacks India clearly has the better batting lineup, top order especially. both sides are a far cry from what they were a decade or so ago though, test cricket isn't that strong at present IMO.

Ricky Ponting in world cup stood like a statue when he hit the cover off the ball and later defended he always waits for umpire to give him out. Stop this hypocrisy Broad did nothing wrong then he was doing what Aussies have been doing for ages and getting away with and defending it as some sort of birth right. But the moment shoes was on the other side whole fricking country including prime minister was whining. Just because India does not use DRS , it does not mean umpires have license to screw it. It is same bloody hypocrisy I see from every media outlet when it comes to Indian bowling, if Aussies score runs it is due to great batting but moment Indian batsmen start scoring pitch always all of sudden becomes flat.
