I would have dropped him if we had some one better than Raina, even if Manoj Tiwary was there who deserves a chance too. Rohit does not exude any confidence. Even Rayudu looks more confident than him.

This is the team that I would select Vijay Rahul Pujara Kohli Rahane Dhoni Ashwin Umesh Shami Aaron Ishant 6 batsmen, 5 bowlers. Ashwin will be just as effective as Rohit, as Rohit is useless at Test Level. At least Ashwin can bowl. Dhawan should be replaced by Rahul, but he wont. This is a mistake.

I would like to see how he does in a longer test series, rather than a couple of tests here and there. Let's see if he does anything this series. If not, then yes I agree drop him for Tiwary or Rayudu.

Now, we should not do the other mistake trying to compensate in Brisbane... In Gabba, we will need more batsmen.... I will go with the below :- Vijay Dhawan Pujara Kohli Rahane Rohit Dhoni Ashwin Ishant Umesh Aaron Ashwin will be our main spinner who can bat better than Karn Sharma and can also not leak runs...Rohit and Vijay will chip in a few overs if needed... At other end, we can rotate our fast bowlers in short spells Hopefully, inclusion of Dhoni will help us in countering Lyon too :((

We have 2 part timers that can roll their arms over if needed...Advantage Aus has is that they have 2 part time seam bowlers while we have spinners but hey we dont have pace bowling all-rounders

Both Ashwin and Dhoni are good enough to be no.7 batsmen. Not bat within top 6. A proper batsman ,who is a decent bowler too, is what we need. I mentioned a seam alrounder because our team wants a decent batter at no.8 too and Ashwin is there for it. We can't have 2 spinners overseas. Infact, we have 4 frontline spinners who are considered as alrounders ... Ashwin, Jaddu, Karn and Axar. But no proper pacer can be considered an alrounder. We badly need one.

express bowling Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 Raina would make Rohit look good Both Raina and Rohit are technically deficient. But, Rohit's attitude in tests is far worse. None of the are my first choice no.6. But, we are out of options. Another adventurous approach could be Opening with Rahul. Dhawan at no.6. Dhawan is not good against the moving ball but he fights it out. May click at no.6.

We gotta make use of what we have.None of our spinner will get wickets in Aus,so we gotta go for balance.Ashwin's batting can't be ignored with that excuse.He'll be picked as 5th bowler with 4 quicker,not as main bowler so bowling economically is okay as it helps build pressure.Any wicket is a bonus
