BlueBee Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 ^ I hope the coincidence ends there and India win the match. :haha:
Gollum Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Can't understand the hate for Sanga here. Granted he is not in Sachin/Lara territory but he is an ATG, the greatest from Sri Lanka. He hasn't played much outside SC, blame his board not him. An average of 42 outside SC isn't that bad, moreover he has played only 4 tests in West Indies. The way he plays against spin bowling is exemplary, probably the greatest modern day batsman against spinners. Pakistan has a more than decent bowling attack and the way he castrates them series after series after series is no joke.

He's not in the Sachin/Lara territory but Lankans,Pakis like to elevate him to a level above Sachin/Lara based on his Career Avg while ignoring the fact that he has a pretty mediocre record outside the SC.Of course,42 isn't a bad AVG to have outside the SC but it's mediocre when you compare to ATG's like Sachin,Dravid who both average 50+. I guess it's more a case of hating him because of his fans rather than hating the player himself.

Pakis well those scumbags tend to big up any player who is a threat to Sachin's record because they are jealous of Indians having all he batting records, they have adopted Ponting,Lara before so this is kinda expected. But we as cricket fans need to be more fair. Agreed Sanga's behavior and mannerisms are pathetic but he is in the Kallis/Dravid/Ponting league a a batsman. Sachin and Lara were a class apart and genuine cricket lovers always place these 2 at a much higher pedestal when discussing batsmen.

adi B Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Sanga is an ATG IN SC conditions but outside asia his record is not bad at all,not ATGesque but certainly an avg of 42 in 34 matches is pretty good.surely not great but good enough. Only handful asian batsmen avg 40+ in those 5 countries outside asia (minimum 30 matches),sachin, dravid, sunny, laxman, ganguly, miandad, inzy, yousuf, younis, sanga
sweetaskandy Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You have to exclude Sanga's time as a wkt-bat as that is an unfair comparison. When playing as a pure batsman, he is as good as any.

Captain Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You have to exclude Sanga's time as a wkt-bat as that is an unfair comparison. When playing as a pure batsman, he is as good as any. Well,if we only look at Sanga's stats when he wasn't the WK,the sample size becomes way too small. He's played a mere 20 Tests in Aus,Eng,SA,NZ and WI and averages 53.55 The average is good in this scenario but it doesn't justify a place as an ATG due to the sample size.
Marut Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Sanga is below Sachin, Dravid and Gavaskar. He is probably better than all other Indian batsmen. Sanga vs Sehwag is disputable as they are different batsmen. Sanga vs Laxman is a fair comparison, maybe Sanga is a bit better overall. Some times I don't understand the ridicule of Sanga here.

Sachin fans are insecure that Sanga will overtake their God's runs aggregate in tests that too at a much superior average. People who blindly look at stats need to understand that the legacy of Sachin won't be tarnished even if 10 batsmen score more than him(which won't happen). What Sachin did in the 90s against possibly the strongest era of bowling will never be matched.

Sachin fans are not insecure.Lankans somehow believe that Sanga is an ATG and try to propagate that theory. The article at Island.lk where Sanga was hailed as the best SC cricketer is a proof of that.

This! :two_thumbs_up: Sachin fans aren't insecure. The only reason why he's hated is because he's time and again mentioned in the same breathe as Sachin/Lara by some noobs who started watching cricket in the 21st century. Also his padded up stats don't make him better than Sachin/Lara which most of his fans can't grasp.

So was it his evil twin then. Excuses and excuses same can be applied to sachin he played with tennis elbow.he played matches and that end there

Those noobs are Pakis and Lankans. And we know why they do that, don't we? Respected cricket commentators like Benaud,Bill Lawry,Gavaskar,Nasser Hussain,Atherton all say Sachin are Lara are the best of the modern era and that settles the matter.

All i'm saying is that the reason why Sanga gets hate is due to his fans trying to elevate him to a level which he doesn't belong to and not because Sachin fans are in secure.
Pagalpanti Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 Oh puhleez, I know Kohli had a poor series vs Eng but at least don't put him and Sanga in same bracket.
sensible-indian Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Don't understand the hate for Sanga. If we say that we "attack/get annoyed at" Sanga bcos of some stupid fans, then fans getting annoyed at SRT due to Sachinistas are justified. Some fans were/are/will be dumb and will overrate some players. But no need to hate or attack a player because of that. Of course, no one is asking anyone to rate Sanga highly (everyone's entitled to their opinion). For me, Sanga is an lower tier ATG.
