Test Performances away from home are where reputations are truly made for players. Gavaskar, Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman etc. are great examples from India. Kohli, Rahane and Vijay will be held in very high esteem by the cricketing fraternity around the world from now on. Pujara has almost missed this bus and will have to wait very long to resurrect his reputation. His cause won't be helped by the fact that he does not play ODIs. Performances in big tournaments also build reputation. He needs a big innings in Sydney.

I agree with OP that we need to stick with this lot at least for one more away tour, perhaps rotate some of the positions. E.g. I think Dhawan's batting is more suited to the number 6 position rather than opening.

All of our top 5 have managed to score centuries away from home, and 3 have gone on to become quite consistent (Vijay, Kohli, Rahane). Rohit got given a chance in Test cricket (which he deserved) but couldn't capitalise on his opportunities and has been dropped (which he deserved). I think Rohit needs to score some runs in County cricket and away tours to be back in contention. I know a lot of people in ICF want to drop Pujara, drop Dhawan, drop Rahul, pick Yuvraj, drop Yuvraj, pick Raina, drop Raina but I think the top 5 batsmen have displayed enough for me to think it is worth sticking with them for a bit longer. Most of these guys will still be there in 3-4 years and I think we could see some really consistent performances if we stick with them. The bowling is the primary area of concern. Thoughts?
