Texan Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 MSA shows his true color. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar called the attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo as an "obvious backlash" to the "war on terror". While slamming the Paris massacre as "horrible and condemnable", Aiyar said thousands (of Muslims) have been deprived of their family members, mothers and sisters, in the war on terror that started after the twin tower attacks on 9/11. He mentioned there are drone attacks and issues like the outrage in Palestine to which there is no redressal. The Congress veteran said, "It is a horrible thing that has happened, I am outraged. However, there is no war in which the enemy does not hit back and what we are seeing is that terror groups are hitting back in the war against terror that was unleashed after the 9/11 attacks." While drawing the link between the "horrible" attack on the cartoon magazine and the larger unrest in the Muslim world, Aiyar said, "There are family members of those who have suffered in this war on terror, who will react with violence." The statement shown on television triggered prime time debates with allegations that the Congress MP was seeking to justify the attacks that left 10 journalists among 12 dead in Paris. Denying that he was justifying the attack in Paris, he said, "I am a Gandhian, I am not a terrorist." An embarrassed Congress strategists were at pains to point out that it was not the party line on what has become a global story of terror outrage. A senior strategist said the party line had been stated by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on her unqualified condemnation of the attack immediately after it occurred. However, there was a realisation that the damage had been done given Aiyar's seniority and his close identification with the party. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Congress-MP-Mani-Shankar-Aiyar-calls-Paris-attack-obvious-backlash-to-war-on-terror/articleshow/45815928.cms
G_B_ Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 people wonder why the congress were dumped out of power.
Gaban Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Struggling to see what this thread is outraging about. MSA has pretty much stated the bleedingly obvious. West is copping a blowback. A feeble one at that. Whether it's just or unjust is semantics.

The only act they have performed is that of taking on terrorists in Mali
Gaban Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 "in major capacity". Yeah, you want the disenfranchised to discriminate on the basis of work share agreement between NATO states that actively allow 'collateral damage'. Notice why I mentioned collateral damage. US and allies have the wherewithal to discriminate between civilians and armed combatants, and yet they choose not to do so. Why expect the other side to play fair?

You think they wouldn't have attacked the cartoonist or the newspaper office they were from a non-nato country?
hhunaeh Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 They are from the former french colonies. Were french colonies targetted in the war on terror too? I don't think so.
G_B_ Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Malli was.... the truth is this has nothing to do with the war on terror. Its basically taking revenge on a magazine for attacking islam and its prophet. (in their view) Sweden had nothing to do with any war on terror post 2001 and yet even there attempts were made on cartoonists.
Precambrian Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Boko Haram killed hundreds in Nigeria. Obviously Nigeria was in NATO according to retarded logic of some posters in this thread.
Precambrian Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Ignore, play victim, allege conspiracy, allege terrorists aren't Islamists but zionists, cry that terrorists aren't real Muslims, - jeez the religion itself is so screwed.
jalebi_bhai Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I can't believe how this traitor, who collected funds for the PLA in 1962 while at Cambridge, is still allowed to live freely in our country. Horrible cretin is what he is.
nalanda Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 @Precambrian The New Yorker: Some well-meaning people tiptoe around the Islamic connection, claiming that the carnage has nothing to do with faith, or that Islam is a religion of peace, or that, at most, the violence represents a “distortion” of a great religion. (After suicide bombings in Baghdad, I grew used to hearing Iraqis say, “No Muslim would do this.”) Others want to lay the blame entirely on the theological content of Islam, as if other religions are more inherently peaceful—a notion belied by history as well as scripture. A religion is not just a set of texts but the living beliefs and practices of its adherents. Islam today includes a substantial minority of believers who countenance, if they don’t actually carry out, a degree of violence in the application of their convictions that is currently unique. After seeing the Sydney and Paris attacks, I have to say there are two kinds of moderate muslims - 'Those who defend the jihadis as exploited individuals themselves which is why blame for attack lies with the victims and their countries themselves and then there are those who defend Islam by disavowing the actions of jihadis as not representative of the tenets and teachings of Islam itself." Hardly anyone, like Tarek Fatah, defends the rights of victims themselves. Condemning the attack itself is not enough unless you defend the rights of those victims.
Texy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 What's next? 26/11 attackers were children of Pakistani soldiers killed in Kargil
Shivaji bhonsle Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 I don't understand why people give importance to this guy. He is a nobody in Tamil Nadu politics I believe . He got some 6 thousand votes in the last election. Lol.
Sachin=GOD Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 Suggestion - we should make an "absurd political quotes thread" and post all such quotes there instead of opening a new thread every time Mani Aiyar/Subramanian Swamy/Digvijay Singh/Giriraj Singh etc decides to open his/her mouth.
