Vijy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 the batting in this series was basically Vijay, Rahane and Kohli with the add ons. Kohlis form was a positive for me and throughout this overseas test the emergence of Rahane and Vijay has been gratifying. Lokesh Rahul appears to be a well collected player. Needs more time but has the technique. the bowling i am failing to find a positive. Dont think of anything. Its not just that the Aussies scored runs. The rate at which they scored those runs meant India were constantly on the back foot with the bat. In the 5th test India batted out 253 overs and barely managed to scrape a draw. In most test matches batting this amount of time would have meant a very easy draw when the opposition has batted about 193 overs. They scored fast, and didn't even lose wickets in the process. As you mentioned, we batted out a huge no. of overs and this should have sufficed.

In a 4 match series there should only be one toss IMO, and that's for the first game, next game the loser of the first toss gets dibs on batting or bowling, and so on.......

There isnt any stand out spinner in international arena nowadays to talk about world class or walk into one team. Even the best spinner Herath couldn't do anything in NZL.When they needed him to break a partnership Many of those world spinners listed would make it into the indian XI. Maybe not for matches in india, but certainly for matches outside. We've all seen the statistics of indian spinners having the worst strike rates of all spinners in matches outside the subcontinent in the last 2-3 years. The one spinner indian spinner who has played consistently in this period is Ashwin- and he is largely responsible for those dismal numbers. I do think most test playing nations have at least one spinner better than Ashwin, atleast for games outside india.
moniker Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Ashwin's performance. It was unfair to drop him after a single bad test in SA. He bowls excellent lines to left handers but has to improve bowling to right handers. Much better than Lyon in this series. Of course his batting is a huge plus Hope we get another spinner so that he can bowl in tandem. Harbhajan was lucky he had kumble Ashwin and Ojha have always bowled in tandem in home tests, hope it continues. During Bhajji's and Kumble's times usually Bhajji was dropped in favor of a seamer in non-subcontinental conditions.

It is not easy for a spinner when the other bowlers are bowling crap all the time. A spinner needs help from the other end which he did not have. If you replace Lyon with Ashwin the Australian side on a 5th day pitch, he would have performed better IMO.

Lots of 300+ scores in an innings by India, which was unexpected Negatives 1. All the remaining 8 players. Bowlers are hopeless. You may as well play the team with 11 batsman who can bowl part time. 2. Poor fielding, mainly in slips. This has to be rectified as soon as possible. 3. Pujara continuously failing and becoming another Manjrekar. Most comic moment in the series for me 1. Rohit's legendary brainfarts after making 20s and 30s and getting out. 2. Selection of Raina and his continuous ducks. Now he is the leading duck scores in his last 7 innings. 3. Brainfarts by KL Rahul and Umesh Yadav (when bowling).
adi B Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 No positives from bowling department, yadav was good in 2 tests,pathetic in Sydney, shami was lucky, rest were poor as well.can't read too much fron this tour though because picthes were superflat,rather wait for passing any judgment on them. Batting was good,Kohli, rahane,vijay all exceptional. The best thing was that India fought hard on the last day to save two test matches, that shows the character of these guys :adore: ,I bet most of the teams around the world would have buckled down under pressure under the circumstances
