gakgupta Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Swarupam Purkayastha --- it took a while to pronounce his name.....Is this the name we will be hearing a lot in near future? Can somebody who have seen him can let us know, if he has enough to carry on? I mean --- I have seen quite a few one season wonders in past like akshay Darekar, Bharagava Bhatt etc etc ..... so is he one of them? Or is he getting his wickets with his turn and flight? Need of the hour is not one more Ashwin but someone like lyon /swann (who depends on classical mode of dismissal)
fineleg Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 How does he compare to Tejinder Bhalla? T.B. is a slow medium pacer, so does not compare :hatsoff:

Precambrian Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Amazing season, but has done little of note in the previous seasons. His bowling average prior to this season was laughable. Definitely exciting but let's not do Karn Sharma here.

Magneto Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Swarupam Purakayastha actually has had a chequered career till now. Played for Assam in all age-groups, then made his Ranji debut as a batsman at the age of 19 and scored a 77 and a 19* on debut. Was only a part-time offie. Scored only one more fifty in the next 6-7 matches, and then got banned in 2012 for three years for indiscipline at an U-25 tournament. Played in the minor leagues of England during his ban. Ban was curtailed in 2014, and then he made a comeback as an offie this season. Went wicketless in the first match and then has taken 29 in the next three. Early stage of his career still, needs to prove himself in zonal cricket first.

Magneto Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 WTF is wrong with this guy? After taking 5 fivers, he has now gone ahead and scored an unbeaten century for his team at No.8 (108*) on a pitch where only two other cricketers got 50s (Mohammed Kaif being one of them). And he already has six wickets in the match and looking good for another fiver. :cantstop:
