vvvslaxman Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Malinga has never been a great new ball bowler. Also, with Malinga, thing is every Indian plays him well. We are so used to playing Malinga in 5-6 years. Malinga does not prose that x-factor to us that he does to ther teams. He did not do much against Aus or England, why? Why didnt he do much against Aus last tour and only SL. Even GG who was struggling scored runs against Aus last tour in ODIs, but he did not. If he does that, I will change my opinion. Talking about Afghanistan, their fast bowlers are pretty good, I would like to have a Hamid Hassan in Indian team any day. No they are not. They are average bowlers. There is no way any of these guys are remotely as good as Mitchell Johnson or Dale Steyn . You cannot come up with awfully specific filters and judge a player. That too when he got out to spinner you came up with a theory he was scared of pacers so he got out to spinner. 2 runs in 9 balls meant he was terrified of scoring against woakes. That is why your theory is far far from convincing. It is purelly statistics based not his ability based.

They were still better than Indian pacers or even current Pak, SL, and BD pacers. I alwayas rated Hamid Hassan, Daulat and Shapoor Zadran very highly since I saw them first, not just now. Hamid Hassan can make it to most international teams. Regarding Kohli getting out to Moeen, uou do understand a simple thing that batsmen try to make full use of bowlers of lower quality like Moeen and get out doing that a lot of time because they know that they have likes of Finn, Broad and Anderson following. It was not just about Kohli. Even Raina got out trying to attack Moeen thinking he is easy to hit. They try to up the run rate which they are/were not able to do against their front line pacers and get out. Not the first time a batsman did that and got out. Ability also must be backed by stats. He is not able to do justice to his ability. He might have that ability but what is the use if not converted into performance. Performance is what counts at the end, not how talented you are/were or what ability you have/had.
vvvslaxman Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 All i am saying it is a slump and call it coincidence. He is a bloody good batsman. His ODI failures noway reflect his quality. If anything that is where he is good at. It is the Test matches that were worrying. He exceeded the expectations Probably he burnt out after such a lengthy foreign tours. He just goes through a phase. Nothing to do with "super duper bowling in difficult conditions'. These were hardly difficult conditions or great bowling.
Marut Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Good pace attack = A team against which Kohli does not score Bad pace attack = A team against which kohli scores If you use that barometer you will always win that contest. You honestly say Afghanistan bowlers are even half as good as Malinga? Haven't you seen how many players have struggled against Malinga over the years. :haha::haha:

Problem is it would have been a coincidence or just a slump if he had done well before, but he didn't do well against Australia even on last tour. He did not do anything great in SA in ODIs last tour too. Reality is most Indian batsmen have struggled to score runs in Aus against Australia or decent pace attacks. Even SRT, whle Kohli is no SRT in any whcih way, so, Kohli isnt exception. Dont think it demeans his achievements one bit. But people should face reality and stop thinking come world cup and he will start scoring 100s against attacks like SA or Aus or England and should keep expectations low. It isnt like I want him to fail. I will be the last person to do that. Want him to sore big against these teams and prove me wrong.

It is not hard to find out whether someone genuinely struggles or just goes through a phase. If you doubt a rookie i would accept, if you doubt someone with less talent i would agree. Not long ago he and Rahane were ackwnoledged by Australian commies themselves that they were the finest players against short ball they had seen in a long long time. Even the most cynical Healy admitted that. He didn't score slowly against Johnson his strike rate against MJ in the test series was around 90.
vvvslaxman Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 11.2 83.1 mph, Ponting at shortish backward point holds on to the screamer, Virat was batting superbly but he is gone now, cuts a wide delivery hard but straight to Ponting 64/3 Kohli was playing well in that match.. got out playing a shot. hardly an indication of "struggling" 18.1 82.8 mph, just when Kohli was looking set, he tries to go over the top of the off side, stays at the crease and doesn't get the elevation, Forrest takes it at sweeper cover 90/2 Again this doesn't look like a struggle V Kohli c DJ Hussey b Hilfenhaus 12 44 25 0 0 48.00 10.3 85.6 mph, Appeal for a catch at slip, Kohli isn't sure if that carried to David Hussey at slip, outside edge travels low to Hussey's right and the catcher was certain he took it cleanly, the umpires have a chat and refer it upstairs, from the square leg angle it looked alright and the third umpire is convinced. Kohli doesn't look too pleased but he has to go 36/4 You could say this was strugglign.. but score was 16 for 3. Everyone was struggling. He survived as long as he could 15.6 84.4 mph, Watson strikes in his first over. Full length ball, comes through much slower than it did when Lee was going whang. Kohli was lazy leaning across for the flick, he seemed to play it early and didn't keep it down. Straight to midwicket, and Watson is thrilled. Injury or not, his golden arm remains intact. 79/3 This was not a struggle as well He made 31, 18,,12, 21 in 2012. Yes. didn't score much. But you could hardly say it was due to his poor technique, quality bowling.
Texy Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Kohli will bring his A game once the tournament starts. Make no mistake. Padosi logo ki pant abhi se geeli ho chuki hai

Also, those tests were played on pattas. Apart from Gabba, no pitch had any real bounce and pace and at Gabba, he struggled.

Missing and poking happen when there is movement like it happened yesterday. Instead, sometimes, you dont concentrate enough and play false strokes because when bowling is good, you need high concentration levels to keep going and play long innings. This is what has been happening with him in Aus in last 2 tours. He got starts and did not play long. Sometimes, got good deliveries, sometimes, poor shots have let him down.

He did pretty well in the 1992 edition, infact started becoming our mainstay then. 99, with him being the captain and changing his batting position right through the series cost him runs. 2003, he started very well, 2 50's and a 40 but got a freak injury. By the time he came back, Indians had anyways lost it mentally. 2007, well he started slowly but what he did later shouldn't make us complain. 2011- well lesser said the better. But, in Hobart he and Sehwag gave us a blinder of a start. As for Kohli, whilst you are right, but he has improved his game a lot. So, I am assuming he would eventually come good. I guess playing in India where you can score huge number of runs tends to go against us in Oz. There are many grounds still in Oz where 240 can be a winning score. Add to that the large grounds and bouncy pitches. Our players are used to godly SR while batting so maybe they aren't able to adapt to slower scoring rates?
Cricketics Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 He is my most trusted person in the team still. I have seen enough Indian cricket in last few years to not get fooled by recent poor knocks of his and the team. Every one has their purple patch. Currently Rohit Sharma is having one, which is great for us. But I still have as Kohli as my trusted person. He is still my most valuable odi batsman for Indian ODI team.

My point was if someone like him does not have best of the records there then anyone can, especially, from SC and he also faced better bowling attacks including McGrath and Lee, two of the to ODI bowlers ever, both will make my best ODI world XI. In fact, Shane Warne too.

adi B Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 i only trust kohli and dhoni in this line up.rahane will do well i think, raina too can play some important knock but have 0 confidence in nohit, dhawan and hackdu. actually nohit might do well when there is not much swing
Marut Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 So what you are trying to convey is that Kohli is a Flat Track Bully ? Yes. Wherever Kohli scores, the wicket is flat. But when Kohli struggles, the wicket was lively. What about Kohli's 75 at Perth? In a second innings total of 171. I guess this wicket was also a phatta because Kohli got some runs. (never mind the other 10 men got 90 runs between them)

He is a good batsmen but has his weaknesses too. He is not complete. What is wrong in talking about them! His struggles in England made those weaknesses even more apparent. Perth was a great innings, no question about that.
