FischerTal Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 this has been proven right over and over again. are pakistan paying price for making waqar a coach? i bet they probably assumed he would just make all of his bowlers overnight version of him, but it does not look he has had too much of an influence. and lets not even get started on the fielding....

Marut Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Great players are usually highly talented and have a lot of natural talent. Sometimes they don't understand the difficulties and problems faced by lesser mortals. They are often less effective at coaching the less gifted folks.

Waqar I heard was a bad captain during his day. As a coach, his experimentations are getting weirder and weirder.
jalebi_bhai Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Not necessarily. A coach, like the captain, is as good as the teams they manage. Andy Flower wasn't horrible. He had his moments as England coach. Kirsten did a good job with us. The biggest problem with great players when they become coaches is that they fail to address the mental aspect of sports. A lot of great players are/were innately mental titans. However, they simply can't transfer their mentality/temperament on to their teams.
Guldozer Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I think hard working cricketers make the best coaches. Whereas someone with natural talent who never had to work as hard as others may not understand how to deal with a player's weakness. EDIT: What Marut said.
