Crookbond Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 My theory on this is very simple 1) As a country you should definitely look into root causes of such incidents, change mentality. We need all the awareness and exposure required for this. Use every resource, make sure incidents are highlighted 2) However, as an independent country, others have absolutely no business poking their nose in our affairs. BBC or CNN or US or UK are not altruistic messiahs who only have our best interests in heart. They just want to pander to their user base. We should definitely oppose any such instances of others trying to malign our country or use such things for their own advantage, I agree. We should ensure a situation where males/females are safe to roam around even at midnight in whatever clothes they want to.

The thing is the rapists don't rape when people are around. So they look for opportunity and attack . It is very hard to protect from pre-meditated rapists. They usually observe the routine of the victim for days before choosing the place of attack. I think IT girl from chennai was attacked by few guys after careful planning. They killed her later.

Now, you can point fingers at other countries, you can compare statistics etc. but from a woman's perspective - exponentially more number of places in the US, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Australia etc. would be more safe than India. You don't want people to make documentaries? Lets to provide the fodder.

Now, when someone shows the mirror - admittedly for some hidden agenda - we cry foul rather than address the issue ? Yes, candle light marches is NOT progress. Increase of severity in punishment is NOT progress. These are merely cosmetic changes - spraying deodorant over sh1t. The sh1t still exists - stop discussing the documentary, start discussing the root problems and have a ZERO tolerance policy rather than "WHY DID SHE WEAR A SKIRT!"

It will only lead to more lynching. India is a diverse country with diverse problems. So stirring the pot every few years about a rape is not helping anyone. My anger is why the heck they let this lady take a video. That is where i am angry with the government. She created a diversion in the name of creating awareness.

Here we had historical cases of child abuse for example Jimmy Savile case, Gary glitter etc. worst case of sexual grooming cases which have been swept under the carpet for so many years for political correctness... Not to talk about hundreds of cases of sex abuse by Clergymen for years... I can understand India has problems, but even after have best of policing and judiciary, I see all these cases in UK and its continuing... I would really like to see BBC interview of convicted Pedophile clergymen, Paki sexual groomers and rapists here to get their POV...

I find it quite shocking that you say that India has better gender equality than US. Do check out some studies and you'd know what he are talking about. India IIRC, is marginally better than Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Pakistan. That's how much of a sh1t country we are for women.
