Got a free run in the team for 7 years despite of being inconsistent and scoring only at home and against minnows. Even Sachin couldn't have survived with such a great record in the team for that long.

Waugh), Geoff Allott (injury), Shane Bond (injury), Jacques Rudolph (color), Connor Williams/S. Ramesh (pre-Srini mama era) and Carl Hooper (mental).
cricketpitch Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 uthappa Uthappa is unfortunate. When he made his debut he was very young and was a very rash player and was dropped. Made a comeback in 2008 played couple of important innings in the tri series finals in Australia but was overlooked again. Went to a short series in Bangladesh last year where teams were getting bowled out for 100's and 50's. If he enjoyed the same faith from the selectors as Rohit, he would have done equally well or better than him. Rohit is extremely lucky to have gotten so many chances. No other player in the last 20 years received so many chances for India in spite of being so inconsistent.

I wouldn't call him a wasted talent. He Achieved what he was capable of. I don't think he could have done any better. He played in an era of great bowlers and difficult pitches and opened the batting. His game was similar to Sehwag so an average of 43 with 14 hundreds was absolutely phenomenal. He played at a time when an average of 30-35 was considered excellent for an opener. His only disappointment might be his ODI performances as he was never able to cut it as a limited overs player. Which was strange as his game at that time seemed like more suited to ODI than tests.

Cricketics Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Schultz was a beast.Sadly injured :(( What happened to Dippenar?He has terrific stats as opener(avg 47 in odi) Herschelle Gibbs was called back during the 2007 world cup time. and then he Missed out because of the rise of other players in the team like De Villers and Rudolph(who too was dropped later). To be honest, he could have easily been part of 2007 world cup. He was playing well that time.

That is what I read earlier and I feel that was his biggest mistake in life.

Ramesh lost is way after injury isnt it?.Still in 98 series he played Akram reverse swing as good as anyone.Definitely wasted talent

Slater's international Test career was cut short because of his differences with S. Waugh. He could have very easily played instead of Langer. :agree:
