Kalia_Test Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I have windows laptop at home ( now running win 8.1 and Linux Mint in dual boot ). This laptop is 2 yrs old and is a basic lenovo G580 with 4 Gig RAM and i3 processor ( older Gen )... I intend to use this laptop for atleast 2 more years if my son does not throw this down My current usage does not need any RAM upgrade as I use it only for web browsing and occasional vidoes...Hard drive is also Ok ( I thought many times to get an SSD but I wanted to extract all juice from my investment before doing it...all my important files/images/videos are backed up onto an external drive and very important ones onto cloud also so I am fine with waiting till this HD crashes irreparably before I change it )... However, battery is one thing troubling me... If I run powercfg /batteryreport as admin in command prompt, it shows that my battery deteriiorated from about 3:30 mins as design capacity to about 1:20 mins now. I got similar statististics when I run Power statistics in Linux. Question is:- At what stage do we need to replace laptop battery? Is it bad enough already for me ( deteriorated more than 50% ) or should we wait till it drops to say < 30 mins uptime before we buy a new battery? Given that I intend to use this brick for 2 more years, would it make more sense for me to buy a battery for about 3.5 K now and enjoy benefits for 2 more years or wait for 1 year more to change and risk not being able to extract max benefit from the new battery ( I am assuming that I will discard the laptop after 2 years in all cases ). What has been your experience?

But then the money you spend buying a new battery may not be well spent na? What is the point of spending money on new battery if you discard the laptop itself after say 6-8 months after buying a new battery?

In your case you can replace rightnow or you can wait for some deals .

How uncomfortable is it for you to keep the laptop plugged in while using? If you can go through those 6 months with a laptop that requires to be plugged in for usage then you won't need a battery. If not then buy a cheap replacement battery to carry on for those 6-8 months.
adi B Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Two years is nothing,it'll work fine for 3-4 years,it's just that if u download or work on a software which will consume more battery,u need overcharging,nothing serious.
Cricketics Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 One type my battery got really hot. I put it in freezer. It realy helps. Wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in freezer for few hours. It works well. Try it.

It works well. Try it. how miserly can one get just but a new battery ffs or get the problem fixed if battery is not the issue
