sweetaskandy Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 So' date=' are you in favour or not in favour of ban on beef[/quote'] Beef is banned? Damn. If it moves I basically eat it. :two_thumbs_up:
vvvslaxman Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Beef is banned? Damn. If it moves I basically eat it. :two_thumbs_up: Thank you hannibal lecter :cantstop:
Malcolm Merlyn Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 How is this secularism? Both hard core right wingers are banning stuff every day' date=' fatwas ban football, some ban beef. We are a secular country only in name now[/quote'] Banning Beef and some cleric banning football is the same. Wow MTC.
Vilander Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 TBH the differecne between these clerics and saffron clerics aren't that huge..One will bring religion' date='and the other will bring ''tradition''.[/quote'] :cantstop: substantiate pls...where are these saffron clerics who issue fatwas ?
Vilander Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Not literally clerics' date='the ones who attack theaters and put hindu fatwa on Valentines day...[/quote'] fatwa is not Hindu. Attack on theaters and attack on valentines day is not from Hindu priests that you find in temples. Its from political parties, are the Muslim clerics involved in this politicians or are they religious leaders ? Politicians have an opinion and they declare it and justify it, religious leaders speak to the masses from a position of referent power, if they are corrupt its a bigger problem. The incident deserves condemnation and no corollary exists among Hindus.
gs Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Just imagine a hypothetical scenario if such a declaration had come from one of the VHP biggies like Muthalik (I am not his fan and think he's a nutter too) - the mainstream media, the "progressive" Indian public would have got their panties in a twist and literally done campaigns like sending him pink panties. Wonder where the outrage is this time?

Wonder where the outrage is this time?[/quote'] There is outrage Imo amongst the progressive Indian public(i am one of them). IMO, i have some choice things to say about Islam and its fundamental flaws but i cannot because of two simple reasons: a) Modern world has decreed that all existing belief systems are equal, so therefore, there can be no belief system that is fundamentally more flawed than others, therefore to go on above mentioned rant is 'biassed, racist, etc etc'. b) Jihadis. Critiquing muslim nutters and islam pacification does carry a fundamental threat to some of those nutters targeting you. So yes, there is a fear factor, particularly in media. Do any of you know reporters in person ? i do- most of them worry about writing their islamic news contents so that the editor isn't too pissed and spends more than 5 minutes proof reading it. It is the reality. Its not like we are more anti-saffron chaddidhaaris than mullahs. Its just that the saffron chaddidhaaris are, like every other religion fundamentalist, mostly harmless. They won't flat out kill you or maim you unless they are deranged people to begin with. But the nutters of that particular ilk are the king-kong mutant variety of nutters, so we are afraid of them. Duh. Don't confuse fear for bias.

As a "secular" state what is stopping the mainstream media/state machinery from taking to task these people spewing venom (regardless of their affiliation)? If this isn't propaganda, what is?

As a "secular" state what is stopping the mainstream media/state machinery from taking to task these people spewing venom (regardless of their affiliation)? If this isn't propaganda, what is? The day you have a standing garantee from the Indian police force, intelligence agencies and the judicial body that any and all levels of terrorism ( including posting/leaving death threats, not just the high visibility bomb attacks) would be dealt with swiftly and thoroughly, is the day you will see the outpouring of islamic criticism. They are 'winning' because of a lack of law and order enforcement in the country. Not because people are too scared to really give it to them as it is. This isn't about right/wrong, its about survivial first. If countering bad behaviour has a potential consequence of death for the protagonist, the protagonist faces two choices and two choices only: risk death or live with it. I do think its too much to ask for journalists to not turn a blind eye towards islamic BS - when you become a journalist, 'i am gonna die to write a story' is not a goal anymore than 'i wanna be an engineer'. Sure, some journos put themselves in harms way to report things, but usually that is a combat zone thing, not threats from your own nutbars in nations where nutbars can kill you and get away with it by 'mob mentality'. Incase you didn't notice, the same is true for every single state where justice & law enforcement is not a swift and high probability of success stories: India,Brazil, Russia, Nigeria- they all have the same basic problem: inability of the justice system and law enforcement to deliver enforceable sentencing against goons.

Agreed. Well put.
