Ultimate_Game Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Didn't get a chance to visit ICF during the tourney and was hoping to be back to celebrate the WC win but that was not to be :( But well played Team India and you did make fans proud the way you showed up in the World Cup. I thought the long Aus tour before the WC would result us in being jaded for the tourney but I was pleasantly surprised. The team showed up and the bowling was a revelation. Our fielding was top notch throughout and the batsmen played to their ability. Beating Aus was a bridge too far and our best hope was to win the toss and bat first. Once that didn't happen we were always up against it. This Aus side bats way too deep with hitters like Faulkner, Haddin and Johnson coming in at 7, 8 and 9! That when you get past Warners, Maxwells, Steven Smiths etc. Even Starc at 10 is better than our Jaddu at 7 in these conditions. I think the best we could have hoped for was to restrict Aussies to a total of around 280-300 and one of our top 3 play a blinder. Alas not to be. Once Aussies put up 328 on the board there was only going to be one winner as Aussies have too many bowling options for these conditions. They're not like SA or even NZ where you can try to see off Steyn and Boult and target other bowlers. They have likes of Johnson and Hazelwood to back up Starc followed by options such as Watson & Faulkner. Scoring 328 against them in Aus wasn't going to happen for a batting lineup we have at the moment. We don't have the same depth in our batting we used to earlier when we played with 7 batsmen. Jadeja at 7 with 4 bowlers following him is one of the poorest lower order in world cricket. In sub-continental conditions we could have played 2 seamers, Jaddu and Ashwin and squeezing in another batsman like Yuvraj but in these conditions we don't have that luxury. I guess it's time to unearth a couple of fast bowling all-rounders and a few good lower and middle order hitters. All in all a good performance by the team and losing to this Aussie team in Aus was not a shame. If we could have somehow avoided facing Aussies, maybe we could have gone all the way but I don't have any regrets the WC played out :isalute: And congrats Australia and Aussie fans on ICF. IMO your team is the best team at the moment especially in these conditions. The only weak spot in this Aussie team is lack of decent spin options but that will not be an issue outside of the subcontinent. Best of luck for the finals and may the best team win the trophy!

They showed up every game, put up a fight and never threw in the towel even against the Aussies. Too bad they lost the toss and had to bat 2nd coz against this strong Aussie team their best chance to win was to bat first and put up a score around 300.

If somehow we had avoided Aus or they had been taken out by another team, India could have gone all the way as other than Aussies there aren't too many sides who are much better than us in these conditions.

SA is mentally too weak. If Pak had beaten Oz, we would have mostly beaten Pak and entered the final.

Batting first and putting up a total around 300 is a huge advantage.

The difference between the Indian team (and any other team barring NZ) and Aussie team was as big as the difference between Bangla team and India, tbh. Toss does not make much of a difference nor umpiring errors if any!! India had to play out of their skins to win, whether they batted first or second.

They were a better side in Home condition. If we had say a 2011 form yuvi in place of jaddu defending a target then we might have done it. Anyhow we had a great campaign full credit to Aussies. Also so glad most fans have reacted in positive way and acknowledge we lost to a superior side.

They are unquestionably the better side and that's why it was even more important for us to win the toss and bat first. Batting first allows you freedom to build an innings without worrying about the run rate, and runs on the board act as additional bowler in the form of scoreboard pressure which India needed to match up to Aussie bowling lineup.
