sensible-indian Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide along with her two daughters by jumping into a canal in Nizamabad district of Telangana on Tuesday, apparently due to harassment by her husband for not bearing him a son, police said. The incident occurred under Nagireddypet police station limits between 9.30 am and 10 am, they said. J Vinoda took her daughters J Nandini (5) and Soumya (five-month-old) along with her and jumped into the canal, Police Inspector Satish Reddy said, adding their bodies were subsequently fished out. Vinoda's husband Sailu, an auto-rickshaw driver, used to regularly harass her for delivering two daughters and not son, Reddy said quoting a complaint lodged by Vinoda's brother. Sailu reportedly had an argument with Vinoda on the matter two days back, police said. Look, you, like a few other America residers have a basic problem in understanding liberalism/western culture if you simple use 'America = western culture' notion. The notion no woman is ready, is simply a ludicrous notion borne out of sexism and a fallacy in reality because, by the same bechmark, few men are ready either. The fact that women do not rule the roost but have in the past in many societies, is a simple demonstration of the human meme being the first meme in known history of the earth to almost completely override the human gene. Incase that sounds alien evolutionary biology mumbo-jumbo to you, i recommend the book 'the selfish gene' by Richard Dawkins- whether you like him or hate him, the Selfish gene is undoubtedly the best ever 'laymen's book for evolutionary biology' ever written due to its scientific accuracy & adherence to proven facts. what i mean is, using human genetic tendencies to make an argument for society simply ignores the fact that many genetic tendencies have been overriden & completely counterracted by culture.

Entire europe with 1.38 birth rate is doing much much better at the individual level of care and development than regressive backwards islamic nations or sub-saharan african countries having 3-5 kids per household.

As i said, please take your time to actually understand what evolution really is and what genes really are (in their capacity as drivers of evolution). Genes care only about propagating themselves- not their cousin genes or competing genes. Genes are fundamentally about the individual- when a baby is formed, genes from both parents compete with each other to propagate itself. If that is not instrinsically individualistic, what is ? Genes are not geared to favour its subclade (clan) over itself. As for those social scientists, i got only one thing to say: Hitler. Francis Ferdinand. Napoleon. Mt.Vesuvius. The black death. If human society has proved one thing, it is that punching data into a modeling system and predicting how/what human society will be like in spans of 75-100 or more years,is total speculative nonsense. There is one critical difference between humanity and rest of the animal kingdom: we are the only species who's meme (culture & social interactions) plays a bigger role in the nature of our survival as a species than the genes.

It is the society that is conservative. Families sit and decide who the boy and girl marry. It is not as if the boy also has a choice in many families. I am talking about middle and lower middle class families. When there is a rampant problem of deciding whether a girl should live or not, other shallow issues are lesser fights to pick.
