Ironhide Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Sandeep Sharma was swinging miles in 2014 IPL and was the best pace bowler for Punjab but his speed was quite low at 122-125 KPH. In 2015 he is bowling at 132-140 KPH, bowled many balls at 135-137 kph and one or two touched 140kph too. And yeah he is still swinging miles.

Hope he does well. one or two errors in Speed guns does not make all entries as null and void, otherwise you will have to dismiss all International matches speed guns ratings too which have shown their fair bit of errors in the past. Once someone starts spending too much time at the green forums, then such people also start believing in those absurd green conspiracies, that is why people should visit such places just for laughs and not get too serious.

express bowling Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 The average speed readings or most of the speed readings are usually as correct or incorrect in both the IPL and in international matches. However....the frequency of the fastest delivery or couple of deliveries being quicker than the next fastest ones ....by 5 k or more ... is a bit more in the IPL. Happens sometimes in international cricket too...but at a slightly lesser frequency. This happening .....of one or two much quicker deliveries...increases the probability of those higher readings being wrong ...if a pacer is bowling. Sandeep bowled so many deliveries between 135 to 138 k....there can be no doubt about his higher speeds yesterday. He was looking visually quicker too.

Yes, guys like Bhuvi also need rest, he is also a human, him bowling at 135kph does not mean he will get less injured or overburdened than a guy bowling at 145kph because Bhuvi is also bowling at his maximum limit. If a bowler is used year-long in all ODI's, Test matches, T20I's and IPL then he is bound to bite the dust like Bhuvi did as he was used in all our matches till he broke down.

Have seen it happen quite a bit. Though I agree I might be taking a few cases and forming a wrong opinion. Like one of the above poster said, some of the IPL speed guns have higher frequency of showing high speeds than international cricket. So its not just me. No one has stats for such stuff. You just watch the games and see a one too many erroneous scores and think "what's going on".

The frequency of higher speeds of some deliveries were much higher but average speeds were fine. When I read that, I realized that's what has been the issue and the possible cause for my assumption. Afridi is different from all. Him clocking 110 or even 120 won't surprise anyone. He can be fast. Kumble - I am not sure he was that fast but I think I saw Ashwin or some offies, left armers getting big numbers. Some slow bowlers got big numbers too.
