Muloghonto Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Its kinda tragic and funny at the same time that the mother of cricket (England) has given the biggest middle finger ever given to a superstar sportsman, especially considering that KP is easily their best batsman in the last 30 years and along with Boycott, probably the best English batsman of alltime.
bones Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 I'm not a KP fan, think he's a big of a *****. But even I know you put aside your personal feelings when it comes to work. You select the best possible team and KP would be part of that for England. I agree with most of you, it's ok when it doesn't affect someone financially but they've denied him the chance to earn from the IPL and given the shelf life for sportsmen on average is 10-15 years at the top level he's got to earn as much as possible in that time because later on in life he'll never earn the same amount. Disgraceful from the IPL.

Hutton ? Gooch ? WG Grace ? Barrington ? KP probably has a case for being the best english batsman of the last 10 years. But both Boycott and KP won't come close to the guys mentioned.

KP is stupid for wanting to play for a team such as England, where they don't give a crap about him. They are willing to go out of their way to humiliate him. He needs to quickly cut all ties and move along.

But both Boycott and KP won't come close to the guys mentioned. First off, Gower was an English hooper type player- looked very elegant and all, but was not an ATG. Gooch, you kidding me ? thats like throwing Alistair Cook into the discussion amidst Lara-Tendulkar. Gooch was a solid batsman. But lacked the technique and stroke play to do anything more than survive for a 20-30 odd runs against gun attacks. comparing Grace and today's batsmen is like comparing people playing tennis with a wooden racket to today. Beyond basic mechanics, its not even the same game. You are citing a guy who invented the forward defensive as an exponent of batting ? seriously ? Barrington was fine, but not as fine as KP.
