Malcolm Merlyn Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Extremely poor team selection. 1.They lose a batsman in Chris Lynn,but instead of replacing him with a batsman,they get Johan Botha.What sort of replacement was that?Botha is a very bits and pieces cricketer and clearly was out of his depth here.:whack: 2.They lose Jimmy Neesham an AR and they replace him with retirement bound Azhar Mehmood:facepalm:.Who they dont play in the entire season but play in the most important match and he gives away 40 runs and doesnt do much with the bat.Doeschate was a much better choice. They could have had replacements like Hales or Taylor or Guptill or Eliott,but they chose these two ancient failures. Then they buy KC Cariappa for 2.5 cr and play him in one match.Why no one knows!:fail: Then comes the continued selection of Param Panauti Chawla.He bowled 2 overs in last 2 matches and scored 1 run.Including a 1 run of 7 balls,which lost KKR the match versus MI.The guy is a jinx and absolute 3 grade.Why is he selected god knows.Hogg who otherwise bowled well was dropped.:wall: Strange tactics of playing 4 ARs in the team.While Shakib and Russel were absolutely necessary,playing Mehmood/Botha/Chawla/ didn make sense.Consequently neither the batting nor the bowling made much improvement. Kuldeep Yadav doesnt get a match the whole season.:((:wall: After Narine was deemed to be bowling illegally KKR should have just got rid of him and formulated a new strategy,they didnt.At one stage they kept playing 4 spinners in Chawla/Narine/Hogg/Botha. KKR just made very poor selections and didnt adapt to the changed situation.Too bull headed and hence are now out.

They had batted brilliantly for 13 overs and then collapsed completely in the remaining 7 overs. Poor selection was not the reason for their loss today.

As if he knows to play only one shot ..Umesh gave him a solid chance to win it for KKR. That's why his batting rated so low in KKR squad

Mehmood was to boost fast bowler options and add batting depth, on what was supposedly a good seaming pitch. Nothing wrong in the planning. It Didn't work out, but that's another issue as the idea itself was not wrong. And I don't rate Mehmood at all, but I have to admit the planning was there. Chawla is KKR's leading wicket-taker, so he obviously will play. Although, GG didn't seem confident in him on this pitch today. You really are making a issue out of nothing. KKR should have won this game, they were leading the majority of game. It's the collapse, not selection which should be faulted.

They screwed it today because of stupid team selection and lost to mi the other day when they should have won it 9/10 times

And this year was doomed when they didnt replace the 2 injured players with any decent hitter. Hopefully they realize that and get better players then botha and azhar
rkt.india Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Both RR and KKR made blunders yesterday in team selection. Mahmood, where did he come from suddenly. Was he the answer to death bowling Wasim Akram was talking about in his article after defeat in the last game. To me, Azhar was Akram selection. RR selected a debutant with no real FC experience for such a crucial game and no spinner in the team.
