Pagalpanti Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 If Purjara had progressed as everyone expected ' date='nos 3,4,5 would be set for a decade but he has regressed so much.Rahane if he says he is comfortable at no 3 I would move him and move Pujara to no5 for now.[/quote'] For Pujara it is a matter of not being able to convert starts to big ones like he did early on in his career. He can fix that. Rohit is the one who has disappointed all after the hype he got when he came into the scene. The guy can't survive on any pitch with movement.

One of the reason why viru was so successful in Tests despite having lack of footwork was because he had good defense. Rohits defense is iffy.

Pujara get stuck vwithout scoring for too long which kills momentum of the innings and that approach is fraught with danger as he has seen , he was dropped also from the team. Ticking the scoreboard at reasonable pace by singles is so important, Pujara has been found lacking there recently. Rohit I never had any hope, he is so loose with his shot selection.

Pujara has always been a slow starter. However when he converts them into big ones he more than makes up for his slow start later on.. In his ton at Jo'burg. He made his first 20 runs in 70 balls @ SR of 28 Next 130 runs in 200 balls @ SR of 65 Problem has been, he's just not gone onto to convert those slow starts into big ones in recent tours. He just needs his confidence back and we all know his capability of scoring big tons when in full-flow.

This guy is always blocking and taking an eternity to get set but then throwing away the start after 20s or 30s. Such a good player and he is throwing it away each and every time

Is joburg century a anomaly, he has done squat since then.even in that test Morkel was injured so he feasted on Duminy and Tahir..He has not shown he can consistently score big against fast bowlers.Unlike Kohli who could not buy a run in England but once form improved he scored runs in Australia. I wanted him to be the opener for world cup too as I thought he had everything to taclke bounce and pace .But he has been so disappointing.just blocking initially is never the right approach and after injury has he done permanent damage to his knees and has become too slow on the field. I really hope he does well as I really like him.
vvvslaxman Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 In Tests Rahane 24 dismissals 1 bowled Pujara 44 dismissals 12 bowled Kohli 55 dismissals 3 bowled RG Sharma 16 dismissals 5 bowled
G_B_ Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 people are getting carried away I think Rahane will be a stable hand for india in the tests averaging between 45-50. Its foolish to compare him to Sachin. He is a much limited player in terms of stroke range and ability. What he does have is the guts to stick it out similar to Sachin and Dravid. Ie he does place a premium on his wicket.

Ie he does place a premium on his wicket. It's foolish to compare any youngster with legends like Sachin/Dravid. But what I saw in Rahane the last 2 years has made me very hopeful. Very 1st batch of overseas assignments and he was special in every single tour. The only way he will end up with an average of 45-50 will be if umpires continue to **** him over till the end of his career. He should have been averaging close to 70-80 right now but every 3rd innings of his he is given out wrongly. :(( His stroke range and ability isn't inferior, his 100s in Lord's(ATG stuff) and MCG had some of the best stroke play you will see in any batsman. Of course his ability in the limited overs formats is questionable, he has many flaws there and will never come close to Sachin. But in the ultimate format that is test cricket I would beg to differ with your observation. Regarding his ability to place a premium on his wicket again I would like to disagree, he is guilty of playing too many shots, especially early on in the innings compared to Sachin/Dravid who would be subdued in the initial phase. Also he tries to be a bit too cheeky with his shot selection which is unnecessary because his conventional shots are so good. I would like him to be a bit more restrained, he should aim to play risk free but aggressive cricket like Amla,Sanga,ABDV,KP etc.

Ie he does place a premium on his wicket. He is somewhere in between Tendu and Dravid.. He is the new Rahane rather than comparing with someone else. Tendu even 16 was a pocket dynamite. Had lot of power game. He could pull balls that were pitched good length. He didn't need to play sweep shots against spinners almost first 7 years. He was that good with his feet movement. Rahane on the other hand is awesome when it comes to punishing bad balls. He definitely hast o master one shot that will help his career immensely. "Tuck around square leg" from anywhere in the vicinity of stumps to get to other end at will. Azharuddin could play that shot even in sleep. Rahane still misses the line against spinners occasionally. So he has lot of room for improvement. But definitely less room compared to say Rohit sharma, Dhawan, Pujara.
G_B_ Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 @gollum vvs let us wait and see. I am more than happy to eat humble pie (infact i hope i do) if he does what you have claimed. More power to him. that century at lords was to quote one of my younger cousins "jizz worthy"
putrevus Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Why are people throwing superlatives for Rahane, He did okay and well compared to other sorry bunch of batsmen on his team.He disappeared after lords in England series. It is not like he dominated any series he has played. Steve Smith or David Warner on other hand have excelled and dominated in all forms. This team needs batsmen who when in form can carry a team. Rahane has been bad in odis, I don't think he has game to be dominant ODI player.I know he played fewer tests than above two but he came thru the ranks purely as batsman, unlike Warner or Smith. What they have done is more amazing imho.Over night Aussie team got transformed.

So we won't know that. It is very hard to name him as "Next so so ". Because he doesn't bear much resemblance to any one particular bowler.
