Tiger80 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 BHOPAL: Shivraj Singh Chouhan's decision to stop the distribution of boiled eggs or egg curries in anganwadis in tribal districts may have raised eyebrows, but the Jain community plans to felicitate the Madhya Pradesh CM for respecting their sentiments. Chouhan's decision came recently after the women and child development department moved a proposal to serve ready-to-eat breakfast for children in the 3-6 age group in anganwadis run under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICD .. BeautifulGame Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015  Madhya Pradesh is already has one of the worst mal nutrition ration for children in the country ffs Seriously :wall: Edit: They are only proposing nutrition meals only now in MP :headshake: TN is having this since the 1980s
hhunaeh Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 So now jain sentiment will dictate what tribal kids are served. Are jains now the kings and masters of MP?
Gollum Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Idiotic move. Eggs are really nutritious and will only help the generally malnourished tribal kids.

Chattisgarh also ranks alongside MP as one of the worst states in % age of malnutritioned children under 5 years of age.

SELVAM Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Tamilnadu government pprovides eggs to students daily in schools. Kudos to progressive socialist parties admk&dmk:two_thumbs_up:. Tn public health system is best in india, hope bimaru states learn from tn
coffee_rules Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 In before' date=' "there are cheaper source of protein".[/quote'] Kyon, Dal mein kuch kala hain ke?
Khalpat Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I was reading somewhere that as per poll done by Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) in 2006, it was found that 69 per cent of Indians are non-vegetarians, and a further nine per cent are vegetarians who eat eggs. Only a big section of upper caste hindus are vegetarian else everyone is non vegetarian. If this is correct then we have a total of around 75% population who actually eats egg. This is an idiotic move, I really want to see a change of reign in Madhya Pradesh.

Tn public health system is best in india, hope bimaru states learn from tn I heard it was started by a CM named Kamraj and it was one of the biggest success stories :hatsoff:. He was also a Bharat Ratna. I know for a fact that Chennai airport is named after him but his life looks interesting, seems like he was a colossal figure of Indian politics. Need to read up on this great man.

In fact, any such poll/survey about the food habits of India will be interesting. That said, this is NOT a majority-minority argument. It doesn't matter than 25% don't eat egg or 75% are the ones that do. The objective here is sufficient nutrition for kids in mid-day schools at an acceptable cost and also catering to what kids like. Indian kids are severely protein deficient and egg is the BEST protein content for its price. Studies in states like Orissa have shown that children love egg in their meals! Attendance increases on "egg days" and children particularly like egg curry preparations over boiled eggs. FYI, this is not just MP - most mid day schemes across countries which don't serve egg coincide with a certain political organization which shall not be named.

P.S As for Indian politics it was becoz of Kamaraj backing (who was INC president then) that Indra Gandhi overcame Moraji Desai in the congress election for PM .

I don't remember anything like this so not sure . Amma do serve 1 idle for 1 rupee in Amma hotels/canteens (Govt run). Also Curd rice and Sambar Rice is for ₹.5.

FYI, this is not just MP - most mid day schemes across countries which don't serve egg coincide with a certain political organization which shall not be named. There in lay the problem though. If every state introduced eggs (which they should IMO) there is going to be a major supply demand imbalance. India just does not have that many chickens to produce the eggs in those numbers. It will mean cost will spiral. It could be that the MP CM is using Jains as an excuse to cut cost and make food more affordable. The truth is for all the vegetarian and non vegetarian argument, India just does not have the land to produce meat in the amounts needed. You look at say Pakistan and their egg and meat consumption is pretty low by world standards as well. Even they cannot afford to eat meat. There is very much an economic dimension to this. That survey which says 75% of Indians are non veggies. The term non veggie is pretty misleading. I think Indians consume 6kg of meat per year. (in 2002 it was 5 so i think its fair to assume 6) http://www.theguardian.com/environment/datablog/2009/sep/02/meat-consumption-per-capita-climate-change Now if 75% of Indians eat meat, even accounting for the pure veggies that is a very poor per day meat consumption metric. I get a feeling those who are primarily vegetarian (who eat non veg once a month or occasionally) are the majority in India. So i would still classify India as a vegetarian nation. Maybe out of necessity who knows...
Number Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This thread needs Panther badly with his fast bowling - meat - protein theory.

Don't doubt the survey methodology, the scientists who conducted and analyzed the data take care of these things. The egg for mid-day meals are NOT to be served everyday but 1-2 times a week.

An egg is about say 40grams on average. So effectively 10 gram of protein is obtained (5 grams per egg)....if two are served per week.
