yoda Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Can't impose food habits of some on the rest of the population. Don't force Jain kids to have eggs, but taking it totally off for everyone seems ridiculous.
Crookbond Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 An egg is about say 40grams on average. So effectively 10 gram of protein is obtained (5 grams per egg)....if two are served per week. Yup and egg is not the ONLY source of protein. The proposal for eggs in mid-day meals was not EVERY day. Besides, these cute "economists" are high order scum - economics has to be worked by demand and not the other way round.
zen Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 A choice should have been offered - there is no point in not feeding eggs to eggetarians and non-vegetarians
SELVAM Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 That mean consumption is due to economic reasons not choice. Don't doubt the survey methodology, the scientists who conducted and analyzed the data take care of these things. The egg for mid-day meals are NOT to be served everyday but 1-2 times a week Tamilnadu government is providing eggs to all working days in schools, kudos to progressive admk&dmk :two_thumbs_up::hatsoff:.
The Dark Horse Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I heard it was started by a CM named Kamraj and it was one of the biggest success stories :hatsoff:. He was also a Bharat Ratna. I know for a fact that Chennai airport is named after him but his life looks interesting' date=' seems like he was a colossal figure of Indian politics. Need to read up on this great man.[/quote'] Kamaraj is probably the only main reason TN is as developed as it is now. He was the only selfless leader to have ruled the state.
Zestian Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Replaced Eggs with Milk, Fruits and Vegetables. :nice: Some people here thinks that NO EGGS = MALNUTRITION ? :giggle: By this logic, all Vegetarian Kids are Mal Nutritionist ? :haha: Better alternatives have been provided so people should not :whine: on his decision. P.S. : Non Veg stuffs are not banned, Children can have them at there homes too, so there is no imposition or restriction of any religious matter.

Zestian Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015  Kids are given eggs in govt schools becoz they can't afford it at home. :hysterical: And they can afford fruits & milk ? Read full article sir - Eggs are cheaper I guess :nervous:
BeautifulGame Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 :hysterical: And they can afford fruits & milk ? Read full article sir - Eggs are cheaper I guess :nervous: Who said they can afford milk and vegetables? Its the Govt that will be paying . And yes egg is much cheaper and transparent (i.e.less chance of corruption) than fruits and Vegetables U do know that Anganvadi schools mid day meals were introduced initially becoz parents who sent child to work becoz they can't afford 3 day meal will at least sent to school becoz of free lunch .

Dude I audited the whole Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA) of 3 districts which included all these aanganwaadi, star systems etc. So I know all these things. ( And coincidentally I was the Auditor of same area too where this change has been done )
G_B_ Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Kamaraj is probably the only main reason TN is as developed as it is now. He was the only selfless leader to have ruled the state. Most of the states which provide eggs also issue fruits for vegetarian students http://www.huffingtonpost.in/2015/06/02/states-eggs-nutrition-sch_n_7486572.html really? i had no idea. Makes you wonder why TN ditched Congress

BeautifulGame Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 really? i had no idea. Makes you wonder why TN ditched Congress Becoz he left the CM post voluntarily to work for congress and strength the party and as part of it he moved to National politics in 1963.And the incompetent local congress govt and Hindi enforcement and anti hindi movement meant DMK swept the polls in 1967. http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/lead/a-kamaraj-plan-for-our-times/article3832708.ece

I find it hard to believe things went to **** so quickly. Had be been PM i am sure the Congress would not have a family affair. Sad, how things could have gone. India missed out on a great leader.
G_B_ Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Adam Roberts @ARobertsjourno Jul 2 Madhya Pradesh cut proportion of children who go hungry from 60% to 36%; Bihar from 56% to 37% Seems despite banning eggs Shivraj Chohan government over the past decade has done a stellar job of reducing child nutrition....
Crookbond Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Seems despite banning eggs Shivraj Chohan government over the past decade has done a stellar job of reducing child nutrition.... Hunger =/= Nutrition
G_B_ Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Hunger =/= Nutrition there is a degree of correlation though. Especially in madhya pradesh. The kids that eat at these places are probably the poorest of the poor. If MP has nearly halfed its child malnutrition in a decade, then I feel they must be doing something right. While i disagree with banning of eggs, there must have been some other supplement for protein.
