amiret Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I don't mind having the Govt run a film school. If the govt can have IITs/IIMs then running a film institute is fine. BUT if the Govt has to run it then they should have capable people and not C grade actors who don't command respect. A so-called C Grade actor is no different that an A Grade actor . acting does not require any real world skill or talent. Gajendra Chauhan is as qualified as any other ACTOR in the indian film industry . Govt should have ideally recruited a qualified and able administrator. IIT's can also be partially privatized . We definitely need more engineers, scientists and doctors than whatever it is that comes out this socialist dump called FTII.

FTII has been plagued by this socialist anarchist guys for a long time. Even someone like Adoor Gopalakrishnan was gheroed by these guys. It has a history of such strikes. Not to mention student leaders who have been 'studying' at the institute for last 8 years1
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 These rowdy students from 2008 need to be brought to the book.
RedFever Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 ^ Its an insult to students all over to call these middle aged uncles as students

BUT if the Govt has to run it then they should have capable people and not C grade actors who don't command respect. "Capable" people often have no time to give for such activities. I am not agreeing with Gajendra Chauhan's choice for the post, but somebody who is not busy with their own commitments and is also well averse with problems faced by the FTII should be in charge.
rkt.india Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Acting doesn't require any talent? Really. A DDL and a fardeen khan are both same.

riya Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 From the point of view of running the institute - yes' date=' not much difference.[/quote'] You did miss his second line though, acting does not require any talent. Its obvious that he is not talking about running an institution..

amiret Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Was he sarcastic...hmm.... I doubt it . i really do believe movie/Tv acting requires very little skill or talent. No special skill or talent that most of us don't already possess .

No special skill or talent that most of us don't already possess . I don't agree with it.For me smiling in front of camera itself is a huge task, let alone emoting a completley different person in front of a movie camera.I don't think its easy to make people laugh or cry through ur emotions..Either u look convincing or look like a loser. It requires a special skill and commitment.
rkt.india Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 FTII row: The real truth behind the entire mayhem http://www.merinews.com/article/ftii-row-the-real-truth-behind-the-entire-mayhem/15908926.shtml Above link was acknowledged by someone who had conducted a workshop there. It was on my wall. Posting in quotes. It is super authentic ... I conducted a workshop there and experienced the LAZY UNPROFESSIONAL attitude of the students first hand... though I too oppose the likes of GAJENDRA CHAUHAN as chairperson... I saw that an institute which should be building and training students to be professionals is not doing its job... then I realize that the professors have no or very little say in how any knowledge should be imparted. ... students express pride in the fact that they are nearly permanent members of the institute... and no one can touch them... there is just a stagnant ingrowth of ideas instead of a free creative flow of energies... sorry to say ..but being lazy and indisciplined in the name of creativity is not growth ..lot to say ...but ..to what end
asterix Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 ye buddha FTII ka student hai  How do they support their families? Do they get some sort of grant or scholarships throughout their "student" life? Don't these guys have any life? Do these fecker said have any aims/goals in their lives?
Raghav_12 Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 So debate has shifted from being whether Gajendra Chauhan is good enough ti whether student is good enough or FTII is good enough. Bro, if students are bad, expel them. If FTII is bad, close the institute. Why force a soft-porn actor like Gajendra Chauhan on them.
rkt.india Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 So debate has shifted from being whether Gajendra Chauhan is good enough ti whether student is good enough or FTII is good enough. Bro, if students are bad, expel them. If FTII is bad, close the institute. Why force a soft-porn actor like Gajendra Chauhan on them. Because latest incident had nothing to do with Chauhan. Rather student gheraoed the director for 6 hours in his chamber when he was marking the project of a student from 2008 batch and then he called the police and 5 students were arrested. I don't think these protests from FTII should be taken seriously. Govt has done it rightfully so. No matter who the head is, FTII continues to see strikes and protests. Mahesh Bhatt, Adoor, benegal, mrinal sen, all have seen protests and strikes. A familiar territory.
mishra Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Apparently the students from 2008 batch (i.e about 6-8 years of solid FTII student experience) are leading the strike. They are unhappy that their work will be evaluated and they will get awarded their degree
