If you think being a better side from late 80s to late 90s = being historically better, then be happy :P Despite not doing much in the last two decades, I guess, even WI could claim to be a historically the better side than both Ind and Pak :dontknow:
And indeed the West Indies are. Both India have Pakistan have never dominated as much as the West Indies in 70s/80s.

But Pak hasn't dominated as much as WI and that too despite having many ATG players playing roughly at the same time for Pak Talking about tests, from 1987 to 1999, Ind and Pak played 12 tests - Ind won 1, Pak won 3 :P PS Overall test record for teams in the same period Link

Dont know about historically as we do not live in past like Pak fans who are still stuck in 92. One thing for sure, if we play today I expect India to beat Pakistan in test cricket anywhere in the globe. In ODI's it will be close contest between 2 teams. T'20 Pak favourite.

Bring it on at the UAE.

Pak has most batsmen in Top 20, Yasir is dangerous in 2nd innings,Wahab is pretty good with red ball. I doubt if India can take 20 Pakistan wickets in a 5 day test match

Good achievement by Pakistan, i don't understand why some people are making childish post just to take shine off their achievement? We should really focus on Indian cricket rather than focus on what they are doing.

I also didnt knew the gap would be this much but obvious reasons for this stat, overall Pak'v been a better side as compared to ind for almost 50 years... its just last 8-10 years where Pak performance went down big time and ind kept doing better than Pak at least...

In test you need to take 20 wickets and thats been our weakness all along. Our batting has been tremendous all along. If you add up all the runs scored by indians vs all scored by Pak and take per test average, the other side of the truth will be revealed. Also try avg runs scored per wkt and compare that. We have played better cricket on many occasions and still manage to lose/draw test matches because we couldnt take last few of 20 wkts. I remember one such incidence where once Marshal and holding scored like 200 plus runs and had saved the test. We had like 6-7 wkts and we could knock out the rest 2-3. We have to accept this and move on.

And some posters claiming they can take 20 wickets or beat anywhere in the globe.

Pakistan currently is a much better test team than India, Dhoni has retired from Tests, Kohli is a very good batsman but he alone can't do anything, Rahane is decent, Dhawan is hack type miss or hit, While Rohit Bhai is Umar Akmal v2. However From Pakistan Asad Shafiq and Azhar are two solid players who have their places cemented and established, with former also making it successfully in ODIs, Misbah and YK are in Top 10 Test Batsmen and there is Sarfraz who will even punish Herath for taking fifth wicket. :D Rahat Ali has been bowling well in tests of late as well as Wahab, While Yasir is very decent spinner. I don't know how on earth an unsettled Indian side can win with a young and new captain anywhere on globe against a side that is much more balanced. From 2005 to 2010, India had VVS, Dravid, Sachin, Sehwag and Yuvraj but now all are either done or retired.

Cricket is not played on paper .... A couple of Ind batsmen can help Ind to get to a good total and when bowling to Pak batsmen, picking up 20 wkts is not an issue

Currently in tests : Pak >> India Currently in ODI's : India > Pak I think we would beat you anywhere in test matches. There is no contest. After a long time we have a team with a solid batting line up. Almost all of the top 7 averages 40+.

He has been replaced by a similarly incapable batsman (Saha) so his retirement makes no difference here. Rankings mean very little. Especially for young batsman it is very difficult to get in to the top 10 rankings early. However from what we have seen (based on their performances in difficult conditions), Rahane has outperformed Misbah easily. Now whether Rahane can continue batting so well is difficult to predict, however calling him merely "decent" while hyping other untested Pakistan batsman is wrong. Other batsman who you have forgotten include Vijay and Pujara. Both of whom have done rather well in testing conditions (although Pujara hasn't been in very good form recently). While most of the best Indian batsman in the team right now have been tested in overseas conditions, Pakistan hasn't played many tests overseas. You can't fault their batsman for it but until they prove that they have the ability to succeed in those conditions, India's batting should be considered to be superior to Pakistan's (or at the very least, India's batting isn't significantly worse than Pakistan's like you're making it seem). I don't see how Pakistan is significantly more balanced than Pakistan considering they have 1 decent fast bowler. Now the situation in India in regards to fast bowlers isn't too good either, but there certainly isn't a significant gap between India's bowling and Pakistan's. As for Yasir Shah, while he looks very promising, has only played 8 matches. It is too early to judge him as a good spinner, especially since most of his wickets have come on 5th day pitches (which is important for a spinner, but he should also be somewhat of a threat earlier as well) or on rough shots (most of the wickets picked up by Yasir Shah against Sri Lanka in the second innings was due to hoicks).

40+ averages which are a result of playing most matches in UAE (except Misbah and Younis, who have played a considerable amount of tests outside of UAE). http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/39037.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;template=results;type=allround http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/41434.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;template=results;type=allround http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/316397.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;template=results;type=allround http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/259410.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;template=results;type=allround I believe Pakistan has several overseas tours coming up. Only after then can these batting averages be used to judge them.

Agreed. Sarfaraz especially has a point to prove overseas. Asad Shafiq already has a century in South Africa though.

LOL what? Rahane is a better than any test batsman Pak produced in last decade. Only reason Pak is doing ok in test cricket because they only play in Asia. Last time they tour overseas, they visited SA and lost 3-0 including 49 all out. Drawn the series 1 - 1 in West Indies and drawn 1-1 in Zimbabwe :cantstop: Go and give this gyan to someone else. Have seen enough of Pak cricket and the team consists of only amateur hacks.
