Dhoni not being sacked, Time given till T20 World Cup

According to Cricinfo sources, there is No immediate threat to Dhoni's captaincy and he has been given time till T20 World Cup 2016 to improve performance or he may be sacked both as a player and captain after that. Dhoni himself has hinted that he may retire after T20 World Cup. So, 9 more months of Dhoni for now.

According to an informed source, for the moment at least, Dhoni's position is secure though the situation will be "reconsidered" after the World T20 in India in March next year. That seems consistent with the decision deadline Dhoni had set himself. After India's defeat in the World Cup semi-final, Dhoni had said he will take a call on his long-term future after the World T20 while not ruling out his chances of playing the 2019 World Cup. ESPNcricinfo has learnt the World T20 has been identified as a "cut-off point" of sorts after which Dhoni's fitness, form and performances will be assessed keeping in mind the team's next major assignment: the 2017 Champions Trophy.
As of now, India look committed to playing limited-overs cricket under Dhoni until the World T20, but the process of identifying players to step into his shoes has already begun. For instance, Robin Uthappa was asked to keep wicket and bat in the lower middle order in the two games against Sri Lanka last year although he prefers to open the innings. Others being looked at to play a "similar role" to Dhoni's are Test keeper Wriddhiman Saha, Naman Ojha, Kerala's young wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson, and Pathiv Patel.
Dhoni's decision to bat up the order at No. 4 - a move he said was made so he could bat "more freely" - is also being seen as a positive step from the captain. It is felt that heavy defeats in the first two games against an "emerging power" in Bangladesh can be put down to the players being "mentally jaded" at the *** end of a long season.

Wouldn't trust cricinfo. They have no access to bcci and tend to make things up with their so-called "sources".
They are still the most reliable cricket website out there and going by what has happened since 2011 are you really surprised???

Cricinfo do have very good sources and they don't post any news without verification or good sources, Also they are known to avoid masala news unlike cricbuzz and others. Besides, this T20 World Cup thing is known to many people as Dhoni himself stated this after 2015 World Cup, i have been saying the same thing that Dhoni won't be touched till 2016 T20WC.

Two matches and ppl forgot the world cup. Jeez. I was a strong supporter of removing Dhoni from the test matches because he was a liability as a player and a captain. There were many test matches where Dhoni completely lost the plot and let the opposition get away like the Mccullum 300 test. But Dhoni's ODI captaincy still works and people who say that we lost due to poor captaincy must have seen only the scorecard after the match :--D I would ask them to give examples instead of just saying that we lost cause of MSD. People blame Mohit sharma completely forgetting the fact that he had a very good world cup. ICF wanted Umesh and varun in the squad and all they have done is leak runs. Dhoni as an ODI player is still very good and had recently played a watch winning knock in worldcup ( Ppl will say "so what it is only Zimbabwe "). The only criticism I have is the selection of Jadeja. He too had a decent world cup but he needs to go. The problem is Axar and binny are not good enough.

Kapil dev was a few notches above dhoni as a player....he was sacked 1 year within winning a World Cup after some embarrassing defeats. Sunil gavaskar and srt stepped down for the betterment of the team Ganguly was sacked....Dravid stepped down after a debacle. Dhoni is nothing compared to those players. As far as bringing up his averages,he did jack in any of the major tournaments we won or performed till the kos except that wc final. He had to endure embarrassment after embarrassment in all 3 formats We got kicked out before the ko's in 3 t20s Tests the less said the better We were whitewashed in most bilaterals overseas including the tri series. So why does he keep getting a long rope? Tell me the last major tournament or game dhoni performed as a player after that 2011 final. Even there flopped in qf and sf against better opponents. In the 2015 wc except Zimbabwe (really) did jack T20s the less said the better. So what's the excuse???
