He just published a paper in Systems Biology and I was looking him up. The whole story is weird, to say the least.

RFCs were written based on earlier research done in DoD/ARPANET. SMTP is used to send e-mails across different systems is based on these RFCs and one name prominent is Ray Tomlinson. Even he used research of others earlier in the 60s, so inventions used in Internet can't be claimed to have been invented by a single person. Of course Internet was invented by Al Gore!
