gslv Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a set of strict guidelines for the dress code to be worn at the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) and is now facing opposition from an umbrella body of Indian Muslim organisations, the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat. According to the rules, the students, boys or girls, cannot wear a "scarf". They must not turn up in full sleeves either. This has irked the students belonging to the Muslim community who wear a hijab and feel it to be culturally unacceptable to go out in public in a different set of clothes. This step taken by the CBSE is the first time for any competitive exam and has nothing to do with religious clothing. Following the cheating racket across the country, the board was not ready to leave any loopholes and took this step as a preventive measure. The restrictions put have not only been limited to the type of clothes the candidates wear but also on the pattern and colours of the garments. It has been notified that only light coloured clothes should be worn, and there should be no flowers or any other elaborate pattern on the outfit. An appeal has been put forward to the board by the General Secretary of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat to re-consider the decision since following the decision will lead to a violation of religious freedom and therefore fundamental rights. [IMG] The candidates, on the day of the exam, will also have to undergo strict frisking measures before the exam commences. The invigilators have been instructed to check the ears of all the candidates with the help of torchlight. I believe they are checking the ears and the turbans are not supposed to cover the ears. I would like a system like USA where religion does not even come into consideration while deciding these things. Again, blame Nehru for not having complete separation of religion and state. He gave concessions to Muslims in personal laws, Sikhs in attire and Hindus in diet. Sham "Nehruvian" secularism.

I believe the "patka" - a smaller turban that students usually wear does not cover the ears.

If someone's religion does not permit it then he/she can sit at home. Unfortunately, the "Nehruvian" secularism that chacha clueless cursed this country with means that these problems will continue for many decades at least.

No one with his/her ears covered is being allowed in the exam. Does that sound fair enough?

Muslims and fair rights never goes together. Just like Muslims and tolerance or equality. It's always about getting special treatment for just themselves or playing victims each time.

No shoes, or flashy full sleeved shirts would be allowed while the cops have been asked to check the ears of all candidates with the help of torchlight . No Shoes or full sleeved shirts ? But they have no problem with the Sikh Turban or Patka ? :hmmm:

seedhi Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Sikhs are being forced to remove the Kada. So its not all hunky dory for them either. The basis for preferential treatment for Sikhs in attire is based on some previous policy as well as Supreme Court judgments. For example, in the military non-Sikhs cannot sport long beards or wear turbans. The Supreme Court has ruled that the turban is an essential part of Sikhism unlike the beard or the burqa in Islam. I think it is reasonable to expect ears to be exposed in exams.
amiret Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Three baptized Sikh students were allowed to take the test in Bathinda after they removed their 'kirpans' (small swords) and 'karas' (iron bangles). Students were forced to remove their caps but the Sikhs could keep their Turban/Patka . What if a Non-Sikh wore a Turban ? :hmmm:

Secondly the highest court of the land has upheld this so rest everything matters little.
