Silva Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 they can be number one. they just choke in key moments. basically chocked away the test series in new Zealand australia and south africa and the first match of this test series. But this a young team while other teams are depending heavily on old people. their is not a single batsman or spinner over the age of 32 or pace bowler over the age of 28. So in theory they can only get better over the next 5 years.

Hopefully with more experience they will be able to cope with pressure more which I am pretty confident they will. NZ has quite a young team off the top of my head. See here: http://www.espncricinfo.com/england-v-new-zealand-2015/content/squad/858249.html Only Baz is 33 amongst the XI that played the Eng matches.
G_B_ Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 there are so many instances where India should have won the test but did not. In NZ we should have won that series and at the very least drawn it. Ditto with SL series, it should have been won by now. These group of players will have to be mentally stronger and seize the key moments. I dont think there are players in India who are good enough to get into this side. I look at India A and i cant see an out of out player for inclusion in the squad. That is saying something with Rohit in the playing 11. Just have patience, cant do anything else. Aim to improve the quality of domestic cricket by making it a contest between bat and ball. Dont just make out and out green seamer. That just helps trundlers who put it in the right slot.

There are certainly batsmen in domestic cricket more deserving of chances than Nohit - Chepu, Nair, Bawne and Vihari to name a few. Similarly, I find it difficult to believe that Bunny is our only bet at a pace-bowling allrounder. Same goes for Bhajji - at least 5-10 spinners better than him in FC.

As bowlers they can actually pick up wickets where as binny is just a glorified part timer. In fact pathan is a way better batsman as well.

diga Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 First drop this policy of giving longer rope to "tailunted" .. In tests, there is no need for freebies
India-KXIP fan Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 A fast bowler as good as prime Zaheer Khan to lead the attack. If India had a consistent fast bowler in Aus they could have won the series given how well batters scored. Vijay, Rahane, Kohli piled on the runs consistently. Ashwin was accurate. Ishant was accurte. Good support there but needed that consistent fast bowling spearhead like prime Zaheer to win. Ashwin, Ishant bowled well, kept economy down but lacked penetration. The other bowlers didn't capitalise on the pressure they built but instead leaked runs without wickets. No chance of taking 20 wickets and India took no more than 15 I think in any of the 4 tests. Now imagine that batsmen continue to pile on runs. Ashwin, Ishant continue with their excellent pitch maps keeping it tight and taking the occasional wicket. And a prime Zaheer consistently getting wickets plus further maintaining pressure. Those 15 wickets can easily be converted to 20 and match can be won.

We'd need 2 such bowlers of that calibre to win matches consistently.
Adi_91 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Be patient and try to get better. Remember, even with the Fab 4 at their prime did not see India becoming no 1 test team. It was the foundation that they laid and SRT's magical period of batting in tests that took us there. Not to forget VVS who was very good esp under pressure at the *** end of his career.

It was the bowlers form that took us there. They were able to get 20 wickets. Zaheer averaged like 23, same as Wasim Akram career over 1 year, he was temporarily in the top 3 bowlers in the world at the time along with Steyn and Anderson. The fab 4 would have been proud of what the new gen batters achieved in Aus after England disaster.

mishra Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Our pacers are slowly getting there but we haven't got a lineup which can amass 500 runs. Despite all Dhoni bashing, When we were a force Dhoni used to perform in test arena too. We need a keeper who can score like Dhoni.

A keeper with his batting ability will be the difference between drawn game and a lost game or drawn game and won game

Silva Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 If we Beat RSA in Tests are we going up to 1 ? Lets say we won the last one against Lanka India has to win the next 5 test matches to be tied with RSA on points. Ashwin and mishra really have to dominate in order for that to happen.
Vijy Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 India has to win the next 5 test matches to be tied with RSA on points. Ashwin and mishra really have to dominate in order for that to happen. Bit unlikely that this will be sustained over long period. I wonder what ranking will be achieved if we win 3 and draw 2 of these 5.
Vijy Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 What's the next one after RSA Test series? Pls no more outside we are embarrassing ourselves :hysterical: I think we'll be playing next 17 tests consecutively in spin-friendly conditions...
Silva Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I really want to say we will be #1 then but after watching how they tumbled in 1st Test. My fingers aren't just letting me type it... :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: We are no longer a good team who can play spin well All our legends are gone from Sehwag,Sachin,Laxman to Dravid, Ganguly,MSD Not even one reliable person excluding Kohli. I really hope our FTB Rohit and Dhawan step up. Can we please have all matches in EDEN LMAO Those guys where also involved in their share of batting collapses even when ranked number 1. Remember the great mendis?
