Not a chance.[/quote'] He is better than Ganguly of 1996. English attack on those days was no where near international level, IMO. In tests, Rohit will do much better in comparison to ODIs. Look at laxman, he too is not a singles player and depends on boundaries a lot in tests and batsmen usually get more gaps in tests and less fielders on the boundary lines. Styles of Laxman and Rohit Sharma are pretty similar, but it is up to Rohit how he paces his innings and makes full use of his talent.

Not a chance.[/quote'] Granted it may be true that Rohit is not at the level of 96-98 Ganguly, a thing of note is Dada was never the same as a test batsman that he was then until he really improved quite in his later part of career (i.e. 2007-08). I really do not understand your point of saying that Rohit cannot be as good a test player as DADA if he sorts out himself... (i.e. IF Rohit does settle down in test matches and goes on to play about 100 tests for INDIA) IMO Rohit may still end up as an underachiever in the likes of Mark Waugh etc. but certainly has more more potential than DADA as a TEST batsman.

Laxman is one guy whose strokes rarely get elevation above couple of feet. His first instinct is to keep the ball down . Stroke player. But a risk free one. Rohit was very edgy in SA against good seam and swing bowling. His "hit through the line" shots just didn't work. And about rohit better than Ganguly of 1996.. i can only laugh. Rohit has played in "pancake" era against some mediocre bowling attacks. He still has such a poor stat.

He is young and played a lot of those games when YOUNG. YOUNG players improve a lot. Why are we so quick to label anbd condemn kids. Reel of all the stats you want but he is quality. Thank god you did not bring up stats on ZK and Gambhir when they were taken out of the team as they would never have come back

He seems to finally have the attitude and the desire for international cricket. his body language reminds be of Gautam Gambhir when he went to australia for the tri series. he was determined not to loose the opportunity. I hope he keeps his head down and keeps going.
