Martyn also had ups and downs before establishing himself. rohit's game is similar to mark waugh, not damien martyn hayden himself said that rohit sharma reminds mark waugh, though, during the end years of waugh, sohaib akhar used to get him out.

As common man said, individual performances matter most. TN also have Badrinaths, Sarath's and Srirams who never got a chance in intl cricket. Atleast Badri scored a 50 in his debut against the saffers. Sriram was given chances in ODIs and he failed. When you mention Sharath, think also about Amol Muzumdar. He is the second highest run-scorer in Ranji cricket and yet never got a chance. There are plenty of batsmen with wonderful statistics that never got a chance. Surendra Bhave (average: 58) and Shantanu Sugwekar (average: 63) from Maharashtra team both scored tons of runs in FC cricket, yet they never played any international cricket. Among current players, look at Dheeraj Jadhav's case too. Never got a chance despite all batsmen from TN (Badri, Vijay, Mukund) getting chances thanks to the combination of Srini-Cheeka-Dhoni (CSK connection). It is very clear that under Cheeka's selection committee and with Srini as BCCI president, TN players benefited more than they deserved. The most glaring example of this is Pankaj Singh, whose career has been ruined thanks to Srini's personal animosity towards the Rajasthan cricket board, which welcomed back Lalit Modi.
