vishalvirsingh Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 did u guys see the left arm spin cum pace bowler who debutted for india in the T20.he was bowling between 122k to 127k and was hit like a net bowler.in ranji abhimanyu mithun and even our old Vinay kumar are faster and better bowlers for Karnataka and he comes as first or second change...so it was that he doesn't get a chance to be in Karnataka 11 but played for INDIA 11.I dislike these things- varun umesh and other pace bowlers who are higher in the pecking order and are definitely better bowlers should get total support.he is slower than bhuvi and is a sure shot failure in international cricket...
CG Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 He has been poor. He seems a diff bowler under akram for kkr who corrects his action again and again . We need a new bowling coach. Also he says at his pace he cannot be accurate but he is not bowling 145ks now 140s
CG Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Pace has nothing to with accuracy. Off course it does.
express bowling Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Of course it does.A pacer won't become more accurate if he tries to bowl slower than his normal pace. Accuracy depends on loads of practice, getting your action right and bowling at your natural pace.Umesh's natural pace is 137 k to 147 k. He can bowl accurately at that pace if he practices bowling a lot as well as rectify any flaws in his action ( Not change his action...just minor rectification of any bowling action defects which creep in from time to time ).. rkt.india Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Off course it does. No, it doesn't as express bowling mentioned. Umesh won't suddenly become accurate if he starts bowling 130k. If slow meant accuracy then all slow pace bowlers would have become Mcgraths.
vishalvirsingh Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 is Varun aroon getting ready ...indian odi team requires a genuine pacer for sure as Mohit and bhuvi bowl 130k in the second spell , though both are accurate still are hit big.See rabada and Steyn they were bowling 140+ and still able to ball what they wanted too....rabada bowled upto 147k and is becoming fearsome- I see him as the biggest threat in this SA line up ahead of Steyn and morkel now.
vishalvirsingh Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 what I wanna Say is umesh should switch back to 144k to 149k Pace , he will remain as accurate or inaccurate he is now...but will get 3 to 5 wickets in his 10 overs and will win us most matches , even if he gives 80 runs.I see that if he tries to contain batsman, he slows down a bit and then his wicket taking ability gets a hit...had I been DHONI I wud have backed him to fetch me 3 to 5 wickets in every ODI and set attacking fields..brett lee also used to give away more runs than McGrath but steve Waugh and pointing never criticized brett lee...
Ironhide Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Umesh has reduced his speed to 135-142k in search of accuracy and this has led to him becoming even more ineffective, Bhuvi is bowling at similar pace now. During IPL, Wasim Akram guides him nicely, Wasim encourages Umesh to bowl faster and get control at the same time and thus we see good results. We need a proper fast bowling coach, the existing staff is good for spin coaching.

He used to take a lot of wickets. His average and SR are amazing. Brett Lee was quick above 150KPH most times in ODIs. Umesh is nowhere near. It is not like he using line and length because he is bowling 150K plus. He is only around 140.

If slow meant accuracy then all slow pace bowlers would have become Mcgraths.Historically express bowlers have lower accuracy. But umesh is not express that was the point.
cricketpitch Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 (edited) Its a misconception that Bhuvi is bowling at 130K..Did you people even watch the game yesterday? He was consistently bowling 133 - 137K and the wicket of Miller was bowled at 139 K (86 MPH). That is a great pace for a swing bowler like Bhuvi. Unfortunately he has lost the ability to take wickets with the new ball. He does bowl very well with the old ball as he showed in the 2nd ODI. Umesh though quicker that Bhuvi lacks control. You can run in and bowl at 150 every ball but if you spray it around international bats will hammer you. Probably if you bowl like that against Associate nations they will throw their wickets away due to the pace.Umesh needs to work on his direction, he has the pace now he needs the control with that pace. He just has to look at Dale Steyn, the guy is an example of how pace and control can be deadly. Edited October 16, 2015 by cricketpitch
