nsareen Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Virat Singh I wasnt impressed but Himanshu is as impressive as you find at his age. You dont score a Ranji trophy 100 at Lahli without being good. Jaffer wasnt really impressive in Challengers. Himanshu scored runs in warmups and Sri Lanka series while opening the batting. Also, Virat Singh had the best average among batsmen in the triseries.Virat simply doesn't have the X factor in him, Himanshu is a good batsmen but he did not set the safe on fire, they had to eliminate somebody to make place for Jaffer simply because of his performance moreover there was nobody selected from MUMBAI SQUAD, that doesn't happen in Indian cricket, lots of questions will be asked why no mumbaikar in Indian team when the team is beating everyone black & blue. There are others too like Usmani / Mulani the all rounder and then Jaffer topping all of them, he simply had to be selected!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
sandeep Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 too much Mumbai hate on this thread, purely on speculation. Scorecard browsers claiming to know more about either player's abilities rather than selectors. I'm not supporting naivete to the extent of denying the possibility of influence in selection. But some of these posts sound a lot like our cross-border brethren in terms of stating personal opinions and suspicions of conspiracy as fact.
MCcricket Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Lol, we R doubting the selection of A Jaffer who score three consecutive double century n a 174, something is wrong if people think he was selected , it should rather be why the hell was a prodigy like him not selected prior ever

Arman Jaffer flopped in the tournament that mattered for selection of U19 probables. If you had to select him for U19 WC, you should have given him chance in the two tri-series they played, but he could not make the cut for the triseries because he didnt do well.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkso, do you want to say he is selected because of quota. Regarding x-factor, even Jaffer doesnt have that x-factor. He too is a slow batsman like Virat Singh.

There is no Mumbai hate, but selection should be on merit. A guy who failed to impress in the selection tournament, wasnt even in probables because of performance, suddenly finds a place in the side. A guy who did well is out. Ironhide 1

Let's not argue over Armaan Jaffer being selected, the fact is he is a classy player and touted as a Prodigy by people in cricketing circles, so let's respect that.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk so, do you want to say he is selected because of quota. MCcricket Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I rather feel the injustice done to him previously has been corrected, he has made mountain of runs from school lvl, think God someone somewhere looks at meritI am not sure of the guy who was left out but he deserves to be picked four months or a year or two back.
fineleg Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 ^ Thats another selection problem - that they pick batsmen/bowlers AFTER their purple patch ends (should pick them when in red-hot form)

What injustice? He failed in challengers so wasn't picked. Even now, his selection is baffling as he has been picked without proving himself against a good side.

There he had to play best bowlers of u19. I can tell you that he is no special talent.

Hope he performs well but even if he doesn't , would still be a justifiable selection on merit, no matter how everyone else feels .I'm only concerned about Rinku Singh, should have been selected for the World Cup instead of Ishan Kishan , we already have a wicketkeeper in Rishabh Pant, no need of two , rather a strong middle to lower order batsmen would have been ideal.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MCcricket Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 This kid scored 1000 runs recently 3 200 on the trot n just missed the 4 the 200 he score 498 at school lvl , if he doesn't have talent then m afraid ABD cannot bat, cummon RKT are u a Jr selector, this kid should have been picked for the two tours before this.

He was just raising his concern as Challenger trophy was organised for these selections and he is justified in raising those concerns keeping the fact in mind that Arman does have the influence working for him like Mumbai Lobby and the Jaffers. If Arman Jaffer turns out to be a great batsmen, its all good for the Indian U19 team and later Mumbai Ranji and India seniors. So, everyone wishes well for him now that he is selected. The only thing i don't get is why such emotional response to a perfectly justified query/concern raised by RKT unless this is personal relationship like Friends or Family.

The only thing i don't get is why such emotional response to a perfectly justified query/concern raised by RKT unless this is personal relationship like Friends or Family. It was RKT who started the emotional discussions by saying "he is no special talent". Now who can say this without seeing somebody play ? And the tournament he is referring to is Challengers, where Armaan failed only once in a high scoring game. Out of 3 opportunities he scored 25 while chasing 110 & 49 which was second highest from his team while chasing 282 and failed in 1 game. Himanshu Rana whom he is referring to as a batsman who is quite talented scored 19, 10 & 0 being in the same team as Armaan Jaffer. Now you see you cannot say he is "no special talent" looking at a tournament where somebody got 3 chances to play, effectively 2, because in 1 game the chasing score was 110, so lets take that out, & out of two he played well in 1 & did not play well in the other.I'm no Armaan's friend, relative or whatever, i'm not even from Mumbai, but the arrogance by which RKT says he should not have been selected was debatable & that is exactly what was happening.

My problem is if they had to pick him, he should have been picked for two triseries too. He would have gotten some experience playing against good oppositions and we would have known more about him. I don't have anything personal against him.
