Should Dhoni continue as a player once he gives up captaincy?

I think Dhoni and the selectors both are to blame for not having a potential successor to him post retirement.

i think Samson should have been given a shot more often especially now that Dhoni is at the cusp of retiring.

as a player I would be ok if he kept his ego aside and contributed as a player as I still feel that he is the best keeper-bat in the country by some margin. 

That statement is based on lack of experience of potential youngsters and lack of confidence in saha,ojha or uthappas keeping skills.

likes of ganguly, Dravid etc played on despite being removed/stepping down.

likes of kumble,srinath delayed their retirement for the benefit of the team.

srt in odis was definitely playing for the 100th 100 but in tests he definitely wanted to continue for a while to benefit the team.

anyways does Dhoni the player still have something to offer in Lois.

I think he should continue as a player. The middle order is just non existent right now. Team cant affort another rookie now. If he socks at batting too, he may leave just like he did in tests. I think he is clever enough to avoid further embarrassments. 

I like Dhoni but I just don't see India winning purely by his captaincy, as most wins came from a couple of individual performances.

Dhobi's ego won't allow him to continue as a player when he is pushed out of captaincy after the T20 World Cup loss, so all this discussion whether we think he should continue playing or not is a moot point.

he is not bigger than a kumble or ganguly.... So if he shows ego than that is pathetic....but we might hear some bs like selectors and kohli requested him to carry on as a player etc.

The best situation would be Dhoni giving up captaincy and continuing as a player, and the selectors working on succession planning with Samson travelling with the squad / playing in the XI alongside Dhoni...

I'm not sure Dhoni would want to do that though... To sum it up, Dhoni should continue as a player, but will he?

Nobody is going to do this.. The majority still feel he has a lot to offer as an ODI batsman and keeper, and there is no replacement who is Playing XI ready yet...

Yes dhoni shud play . 

His keeping is extremly sharp and he can play freely once captaincy burden is off

He can play his best cricketer post captaincy same happened with sourav ganguly

N we dnt have ny one gr8 in wings

Samson is a gud talent but has failed big time in domestic

 

N Behind the wkt he can still b a lot of help to kohli,

Kohli i feel doesnt have senior while captaining which sourav, dravid, dhoni had
